Yesterday, the City Council’s Land Use committee voted through a contentious bill that would impose deadlines on the Landmarks Preservation Commission and its process of designating historic properties. Preservationists and their allies on the City Council overwhelmingly oppose the bill, Intro 775-A, because it would force the LPC to consider buildings and historic districts within two years of being calendared.
A 220-foot-tall office development is set to replace two smaller buildings – one mixed-use and the other commercial – in Midtown’s tiny Diamond District. New building applications were filed Friday for the 17-story building at 43 West 47th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

Now, the Bed-Stuy-based firm has filed applications for eight stories of apartments at 15 East 19th Street, its sixth project in the neighborhood southeast of Prospect Park.
