A long-vacant South Bronx lot in Highbridge may become new housing. Building applications were filed last week to develop eight stories of apartments at 1285 Edward L Grant Highway, on the corner of West 169th Street.
It’s been over a year since YIMBY revealed 15 East 30th Street, the 750-foot condo tower under construction between Fifth and Madison avenues in NoMad. Now, we have a fresh rendering of the building, which was posted on the construction fence yesterday.
In the fight over whether to rezone Prospect Lefferts Gardens in Brooklyn, a few industrially zoned blocks have become major sticking points. Activists have argued that a few highway-like blocks along Empire Boulevard, at the northwestern edge of the neighborhood, would produce high-rise development and gentrification if they were rezoned to allow new apartments. But there are two more industrial blocks at the southern end of the hood, on Parkside Avenue between Rogers and New York avenues, and now, a new building may replace an old warehouse there at 640 Parkside Avenue, between Rogers and Nostrand avenues.
Most development on the Northside of Williamsburg consists of glassy new buildings, but every once in a while, someone converts a pre-war structure instead of tearing it down. Today, YIMBY has a look at 119-123 Kent Avenue, where three century-old townhouses will expand and get a new, brick facade that stretches across all of them.
Central Harlem is soon going to have one fewer vacant lot. Developer Rafael Santandreu hopes to build a nine-story, mixed-use building at the corner of 135th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, next to the 135th Street stop on the B and C trains.
