540 West 21st Street Remains Stalled in Chelsea, Manhattan

The fourth entry on our Turkey Week rundown of stalled projects is 540 West 21st Street, a 20-story mixed-use building in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by Adamson Associates and originally developed by Casco Development Corp. under the 540 West 21st Street LLC, the 250-foot-tall structure was planned to yield 34 condominium units with an average scope of 3,370 square feet, as well as 43,510 square feet of commercial space. Suffolk Construction Company was the contractor for the project, which is located at the corner of West 21st Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from Hudson River Park.

Foundations are progressing at 201-207 Seventh Avenue, the site of a nine-story residential building in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by Amie Gross Architects and developed by New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development under the Chelsea HDFC, the 85-foot-tall structure will span 30,859 square feet and yield 26 affordable co-op units in studio to three-bedroom layouts, as well as 1,828 square feet of retail space divided among three tenants. A.A.D. Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which is alternately addressed as 170 West 22nd Street and located at the southeast corner of Seventh Avenue and West 22nd Street.

Exterior work and façade installation is nearing completion at One High Line, a pair of twisting structures at 500 West 18th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Witkoff Group and Access Industries, the 36- and 26-story structures will yield 900,000 square feet with 236 condominium units ranging from one- to five-bedroom layouts, a hotel component operated by Faena Hotel, ground-floor retail space, and a new landscaped public plaza. Suffolk Construction is the general contractor, Enzo Enea is the landscape architect, and Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group is handling sales and marketing for the property, which is alternately addressed as 76 Eleventh Avenue and stands adjacent to the High Line on a trapezoidal plot bound by West 18th Street to the north, West 17th Street to the south, Tenth Avenue to the east, and West Street to the west.

Construction continues on The Elisa, an 11-story residential building at 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea. Designed by Isay Weinfeld Architects, the topped out structure will yield 25 condominium units in one- to three-bedroom layouts with sales and marketing by Bianca D’Alessio, Christian Haag, and Mia Calabrese of Nest Seekers and SERHANT, with prices ranging from $1.45 million to $5 million. The largest reported unit is going to be a four-bedroom penthouse.
