The NoMad Ritz Carlton’s Foundation Reaches Street Level at 1185 Broadway

Progress has been quick and steady at 1185 Broadway, aka 29 West 28th Street, the future NoMad site of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Excavation finished in the beginning of January. Since then, the foundations and basement floors have been built to street level and the construction crane is up and running. The $500 million Midtown skyscraper is about to rise at the corner of Broadway and West 28th Street. Designed by Rafael Vinoly, developed by Marriott, Ritz Carlton Hotels, and Flag Luxury Properties, and with interior design by Yabu Pushelberg. The upcoming hotel will rise 40 stories tall and reach 580 feet above Midtown and the surrounding neighborhood.

LPC to Review Proposals for 11 Bond Street’s Roof Level Expansion in NoHo, Manhattan

To construct a rooftop addition at 11 Bond Street in Manhattan’s NoHo Historic District, Marin Architects will appear before the city’s Landmark Preservation Commission with updated proposals. The Colonial Revival building, also referred to as 348 Lafayette Street, was originally completed in 1913 by architects Elisha H. Janes and August W. Cordes.

Permits Filed for 204 Avenue A in East Village, Manhattan

Permits have been filed for a seven-story affordable housing building at 204 Avenue A in the East Village, Manhattan. Located between East 12th Street and East 13th Street, the interior lot is one city block south of the 1st Avenue subway station, serviced by the L train. New York City’s Housing Preservation and Development is listed as the owner behind the applications. In December 2018, the site sought status as an Urban Development Action Area Project. Previous tenants had to vacate their residences in 2008 due to deteriorating structural conditions.

The Jacob K. Javits Center’s Expansion Starts To Take Shape in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Construction on the new expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Center is taking shape very quickly. Steel columns, beams, and large diagonal trusses can easily be seen rising above the original building from the street and from across the Hudson River, with multiple yellow construction cranes swinging and lifting the structural components into place.

Located between West Street and Franklin Street, the corner lot is eight city blocks north of the Greenpoint Avenue subway station, serviced by the G train. Dan Berger of Brookfield Property Partners is listed as the owner behind the applications for this tower along with an adjacent seven-story development at 15 Eagle Street.

Located between Avenues A and B, the interior lot is three city blocks from the 1st Avenue subway station, serviced by the L train. New York City’s Housing Preservation and Development is listed as the owner behind the applications. In December 2018, the site sought status as an Urban Development Action Area Project. Previous tenants had to vacate their residences in 2008 due to deteriorating structural conditions and have been displaced since.

DDG’s Gaudi-Inspired 180 East 88th Street Gets Its Curtain Wall on The Upper East Side

The exterior curtain wall at 180 East 88th Street is making substantial progress as it swiftly encloses the 31-story reinforced concrete structure. The tower is now the tallest skyscraper on the Upper East Side above 72nd Street, with design by DDG. HTO Architects is serving as the architect of record, and Petersen Tegl, a Denmark-based firm, is in charge of the Kolumba masonry brick facade. The property will yield around 130,000 square feet of residential space when complete, averaging over 2,700 square feet per unit. There will be 52,000 square feet of communal facilities on the lower floors, and the remaining 1,100 square feet will be dedicated to commercial use.

Glass Facade Climbs Up Hotel at 16 East 39th Street in Midtown Manhattan

The facade work is progressing quickly on the upcoming 22-story Hyatt Centric Hotel at 16 East 39th Street, located near Bryant Park in Midtown. The reinforced concrete structure, which topped out back in January, will include 162 short-stay rooms, a restaurant and lounges on the ground floor, an appointed rooftop, and a rear courtyard. The new 244-foot-tall building will yield 77,858 square feet. Gene Kaufman Architect is the designer of the project.
