Construction Wrapping Up on Beckford House and Tower on the Upper East Side, Manhattan

Construction is now complete on Beckford House and Beckford Tower, a pair of completed residential buildings in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The 21-story, 215-foot-tall Beckford House at 301 East 81st Street (also addressed as 1562 Second Avenue) and the 31-story Beckford Tower at 301 East 80th Street are designed by Studio Sofield and SLCE Architects and developed by Icon Realty Management, with CM & Associates in charge of construction. The site is located along Second Avenue between East 80th and 81st Streets.

Excavation Imminent at 308 West 43rd Street in Midtown West, Manhattan

Excavation is imminent at 308 West 43rd Street in Midtown West, the site of a planned 401-foot-tall tower. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Taconic Partners under 311 West 42nd Street Associates, the 32-story mixed-use building will rise between Eighth and Ninth Avenues directly across across West 42nd Street and the northern wing of the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

LPC Reviews Proposed Signage and Lighting at 95 Marginal Street in Seaport District, Manhattan

The Landmarks Preservation Commission is now reviewing lighting and signage schemes at 95 Marginal Street in Manhattan’s South Street Seaport Historic District. Architectural renderings from Roman & Williams Buildings and Interiors offer a first look at how the building will enliven Pier 17 and contribute to the greater revitalization of the historic district.

Housing Lottery Launches for 2885 Marion Avenue in Jerome Park, The Bronx

The affordable housing lottery has launched for 2885 Marion Avenue, an eight-story mixed-use development in Jerome Park, The Bronx. Designed by OCV Architects, the 118,000-square-foot building will yield 114 units. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 97 units for residents at 50 to 110 percent of the area median income, ranging in eligible income from $38,743 to $155,100.

Construction Wraps on 180 East 88th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Construction is now complete on 180 East 88th Street, a 50-story residential tower and the tallest building on the Upper East Side above 72nd Street. Designed and developed by DDG with HTO Architects as the architect of record, the 100,242-square-foot structure yields 48 half- and full-floor homes, averaging 2,088 square feet apiece. Global Holdings Management is also part of the development team for the project, which is located along Third Avenue between East 87th and 88th Streets, directly across from a Whole Foods Market and a short walk from the 86th Street station, servicing the 4, 5, and 6 trains.

Planned Halletts North Development Revealed in Astoria, Queens

A recently published Environmental Assessment Statement has revealed Halletts North, a 1-million-square-foot development at the waterfront edge of Astoria, Queens. If the required zoning amendments are approved, the building will house a mix of market-rate and income-restricted apartments, retail space, and a community facility. The scope of construction also includes 525 parking spaces and over 41,000 square feet of publicly accessible area.

50 Trinity Place Climbs Toward Halfway Mark in the Financial District, Manhattan

Construction is nearing the halfway mark on 50 Trinity Place, a 28-story Hotel Indigo in the Financial District. The 77,310-square-foot tower will yield 173 hotel rooms and is designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by FIT Investment Corporation, which purchased the Lower Manhattan property in 2012 for $15 million. The site is located at the corner of Trinity Place and Rector Street, diagonally across from Trinity Church.

The affordable housing lottery has launched for 1533 East 19th Street, an eight-story residential development in Midwood, Brooklyn. Designed by Shahriar Afshari, the 49,440-square-foot building will yield 56 units. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 17 units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income, ranging in eligible income from $73,920 to $159,640.

Anish Kapoor’s Bean Sculpture at 56 Leonard Street Awaits Completion in Tribeca, Manhattan

Work has still yet to finish on the amorphous mirrored “bean” sculpture at the base of 56 Leonard Street, an 821-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Tribeca. The art piece, which sits partially complete between the sidewalk and the cantilevering ceiling of the ground floor by the intersection of Church and Leonard Streets, is the work of Anish Kapoor, the creator of Chicago’s chrome steel-plated Cloud Gate and the ArcelorMittal Orbit from the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Herzog & de Meuron and Hill West Architects are the designers of the tower, one of the tallest structures in Lower Manhattan.

291 Livingston Street’s Dazzle Mural Revealed in Downtown Brooklyn

Scaffolding has been removed from 291 Livingston Street revealing the large mural on the western elevation of the 22-story hotel in Downtown Brooklyn. The 189-foot-tall project is designed by Gene Kaufman Architect and is being developed by Aview Equities and Hello Living, which purchased the plot for $11.1 million. Located between Nevins Street to the east and Hanover Place to the west, the property will yield 100 hotel rooms and a ground-floor beer garden.
