Permits have been filed for a new 50-story tower at 1780 First Avenue, in Yorkville, Manhattan, adjacent to where the New York City Housing Authority‘s John Haynes Holmes Towers currently stand. Located at the corner of 1st Avenue and East 93rd Street, the two buildings presently on the site were built in 1968 and have 537 units across 25 floors with a gross square footage of 386,322. The nearest transit access is two city blocks north at the 96th Street – 2nd Avenue station, courtesy of the N and Q trains.

Brookfield Files Permits for 31-Story Tower at 1 Bell Slip in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Applications for a new 31-story residential building at 1 Bell Slip in Greenpoint, Brooklyn were filed this week. Located at the north end of Greenpoint, the proposed tower is bordered by Newtown Creek on one end and Commercial Street on the other. The closest subway station, Greenpoint Avenue, is half a mile south on Manhattan Avenue, and is serviced by the G train. Brookfield is listed as the owner behind the applications. This is one of four residential components Brookfield is developing with partner Park Tower Group at Greenpoint Landing, a 22-acre master-planned development site on the Brooklyn waterfront that includes 1 Blue Slip.

Permits have been filed for a nine-story mixed-use building at 50 Commercial Street, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The site is located between Clay and Box Streets, in the northern end of the neighborhood. Nearby transportation includes the LIRR at Long Island City, the ferry at India Street, and the G train at Greenpoint Avenue, all of which are within a half mile’s walk. Nicholas Manetta, founder of Rimani Realty, LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.

“Astoria Borealis” Occurs As New York’s Ailing Infrastructure Leads to Surprise Regional Light Show

Just after 9pm on Thursday evening, an explosion occurred at a power plant in Astoria resulting in a glowing blue sky, which some have now dubbed the Astoria Borealis. According to NYPD, the flash of blue light was a result of an apparent transformer explosion at a Con Edison substation facility.

Rendering Revealed for Badaly Architect’s 761 East 233rd Street in Wakefield, The Bronx

Two weeks ago, YIMBY reported on the filing of permits for 761 East 233rd Street. Designed by Badaly Architect PLLC, the seven-story residential building will be located in The Bronx’s Wakefield neighborhood. A look at the newly released rendering of the project reveals a red brick and white cement block facade. The ground floor of this corner lot development appears to house the 52-car parking garage.

Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed-use building at 2321 Belmont Avenue, in Belmont, The Bronx. Located between East 183rd Street and Crescent Avenue, the interior site is five blocks west of the Bronx Zoo. Less than a mile north is the Fordham train stop on the MetroNorth, and the 182nd-183rd Streets Station is less than one mile to the west, serviced by the B and D trains. Located between East 156th and East 157th Streets, the corner site is one block east of the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, Third Avenue. Less than a half mile east is the Jackson Avenue subway station serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development is listed as the owner behind the applications. In August of 2018, a proposed remedy was released by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to address brownfield contamination so the site can be redeveloped.
