New 22-Story Commercial Building Coming to 124 East 14th Street in Manhattan

Permits have been filed for a new 22-story commercial building at 124 East 14th Street, in Manhattan’s East Village. The site is the former retail space of the P.C. Richard & Son appliance shop, which closed their two-story, 20,000-square-foot location last winter. Since 2015, the city’s Economic Development Corp. has been soliciting proposals to redevelop the prime city-owned site, particularly those that include new office space for up and coming business tenants in creative and tech industries in the neighborhood.

The 6,467-square-foot structure listed as built in 1900 has been used as industrial loft space, with two units across the four floors. The area is serviced by the 4,5,6 trains at the 125th Street station, one block away. It is unclear what plans are in store for the 2,523 square foot lot as no new building permits have been filed yet.

Demolition permits have been filed for the twelve-story building at 252 West 78th Street, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Owned by the Collegiate Churches of New York, the site will expand to 18 stories with both horizontal and vertical extensions, totaling an additional 148,299 square feet of development. With an increase in building height to 209 feet from 143 feet, the use will also change to residential, and it will have an address of 378 West End Avenue.

Located between Arthur Avenue and Belmont Avenue, the site is situated in neighborhood that appears fairly suburban. Half a mile away is the MetroNorth Tremont train station, and closer to a mile away are the 174 St-Southern Boulevard and West Farms Square – East Tremont Avenue subway stations, both serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. Arjan Gjushi of Al. Bros. Construction is listed as the owner behind the applications. Gjushi also recently filed permits for a 160-unit project nearby, at 29 Featherbed Lane.

YIMBY has an exclusive new rendering for 100 Franklin in Tribeca, the latest venuture by developer DDG. Known as the JR Building and located between West Broadway and Sixth Avenue, the project is named after the street art installations by French graffiti artist JR that once stood on-site. Comprised of two triangular structures, the project will yield 10 spacious condominiums, with retail also situated on the ground floor.
