This month the Harlem School of the Arts will break ground on a $9.5 million renovation titled “The Renaissance Project.” Under the direction of Imrey Studio, the core of the project includes a replacement of the structure’s brick exterior with a double-height glass façade to both promote the flow of natural light into the building and amplify the school’s interaction with the surrounding neighborhood.
Ceruzzi Properties and SMI have partnered with Champalimaud Design to deliver a suite of amenity spaces within The Centrale, one of the latest condominium towers to debut in Manhattan’s East Side. Located at 138 East 50th Street, the 71-story building is designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli and SLCE and contains 124 condominiums that entered the market in May 2019.
Construction has kicked off at 1475 41st Street, where developers have gained approvals to expand and repurpose an existing four-story building into a new school. Located on an 8,000-square-foot corner lot in Borough Park, Brooklyn, the school is expected to debut by September 2020 and will top out at seven stories.
Studio MDA will again present drawings to the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission for a proposed alteration and vertical expansion of 85 Franklin Street in Tribeca. The updated set of elevation models and renderings reveal modifications to the building’s façade above the third floor and geometric cornice details at the roof of the structure.
In an exciting announcement from the Office of Governor Cuomo, the state has awarded development rights and construction funding for four new housing projects that will collectively create more than 2,700 affordable-supportive residential units. Herkimer Gardens, located at 483 Herkimer Street in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, is one of the projects to receive funding and approvals from the Governor’s $1.4 billion “Vital Brooklyn” housing initiative.
