140 West 28th Street Crosses Halfway Mark Above Chelsea

Construction of a 419-foot-tall hotel at 140 West 28th Street in Chelsea is passing the halfway mark. Workers are currently pouring the 29th floor and getting ready to create the form work for the 30th floor. The tower is designed by Gene Kaufman Architect and is being developed by Eastern Consolidated. The property successfully secured a $121.35 million debt and equity package last year thanks to the Bank of the Ozarks and Square Mile Capital Management. There will be 526 rooms divided among a Marriott, TownePlace Suites, and Springhill Suites. Each will have its own separate lobby on the ground floor and shared common rooms.

The Jardim at 527 West 27th Street Nearing Completion in Chelsea

The Jardim at 527 West 27th Street is an upcoming 11-story residential complex in Chelsea. It stands adjacent to Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28th Street project. The new property has already topped out and almost all the exterior work is finished, with only minor touches awaiting completion on the ground level and top floors. Meanwhile, the interiors of the 36 units are being fitted out, each averaging 2,500 square feet. The 90,000-square-foot undertaking is being designed by Isay Weinfeld and developed by Centaur Properties and Pizzarotti.

At noon today, New York’s newest neighborhood will ceremonially open for business. Hudson Yards‘ first public-facing attractions—the Shops & Restaurants and Thomas Heatherwick’s interactive sculpture Vessel—will welcome the crowds that have watched patiently from afar as the project’s soaring, glass-sheathed towers have transformed the skyline. Elkus Manfredi Architects is the designer of the seven-story retail center, of which Neiman Marcus is the anchor tenant. The city’s largest indoor shopping mall with more than 100 stores, it features 720,000 leasable square feet with nearly 85 percent of the space already occupied.

NoMad’s Virgin Hotel Tops Out At 1225 Broadway, Work on Podium Floors and Facade Continues

The future Virgin Hotel at 1225 Broadway has officially topped out above NoMad. The 476-foot tall skyscraper has about 300,000 square feet of newly built space. The interiors will yield a 460-key hotel and 90,000 square feet of retail on the lower podium floors. VOA Associates is the designer of the glass skyscraper while Lam Group is the developer. Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Group will be in charge of managing the hotel when completed.

New Senior Housing Facility at 139 East 56th Street Tops Out in Midtown Manhattan

139 East 56th Street, aka 677-681 Lexington Avenue, recently topped out 17 stories above Midtown. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Hines and Welltower, the new senior-housing facility is called “Sunrise” and is located at the corner of East 56th Street and Lexington Avenue. Facade installation at ground level has also commenced. The two developers previously paid $115 million for the 9,236-square foot site. The tower now stands 218 feet to its rooftop.
