Genovese Family Life Center, a social services provider in Jamaica, Queens, reopened this week following an extensive renovation project designed by Spacesmith. Located at 89-30 161st Street, the property is owned and operated by SCO Family of Services, an organization that assists people facing significant life challenges with a focus on education, family support, housing, youth justice services, people with developmental disabilities, and community wellness.

New York state Senator Michael Gianaris has revealed plans to construct a new planetarium at 21-12 30th Road in Astoria, Queens. Construction of the planetarium is a major facet of plans to renovate the site’s existing building which currently houses the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens, a non-profit organization that offers youth development, physical fitness, and seasonal programming for local children and teens.

Led by developer VP Capital Holdings, the building will create a mix of market-rate apartments, affordable homes, a retail component, and community facility space.

Eagle + West Wraps Up Construction at 227 West Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Construction is finishing up on Eagle + West, a pair of stepped and cantilevering 30- and 40-story residential towers at 227 West Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by OMA and Beyer Blinder Belle and developed by Brookfield Property Partners and Park Tower Group, the project yields 745 units in studio to three-bedroom layouts, with 224 residences designated as affordable housing. Marmol Radziner is the interior designer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers served as the structural engineer, Thornton Tomasetti was the façade consultant, and Highbury Concrete constructed the property, which is located at the corner of Eagle and West Streets. James Corner Field Operations designed the adjacent riverfront esplanade to the west.

Beach 21 Affordable Housing Project Completes Construction at 10-47 Beach 21st Street in Far Rockaway, Queens

Construction is complete on Beach 21, a ten-story affordable housing building at 10-47 Beach 21st Street in Far Rockaway, Queens. Developed by The Community Builders with support from New York City’s Economic Development Corporation, Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and Housing Development Corporation, the structure yields 224 units reserved for New Yorkers earning 40 to 80 percent area median income (AMI) and 23 units for the formerly homeless, as well as 28,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and community space including a daycare center. The project is part of the city’s Downtown Far Rockaway Revitalization Plan and is located between Mott Avenue to the north and Cornaga Avenue to the south.
