Back in May, a developer filed plans to convert a warehouse into a nightclub at 599 Johnson Avenue, on the western edge of Bushwick’s industrial business zone. Now we have the first look at the warehouse’s transformation, which will liven up a pretty dead commercial block between Scott and Gardner Avenues.
Over the summer, Related Companies’ 11-story, 39-unit mixed-use building at 520 West 28th Street, in West Chelsea, was just starting to climb above street level, and now Curbed has a slew of new exterior and interior renderings via the project’s teaser site. The building will be topped by a 6,391 square-foot triplex penthouse, and 11,180 square feet of retail space is planned on the ground floor. Zaha Hadid is designing the project, Hayes Davidson crafted the renderings, and completion is expected in late 2016.
Since New York’s earliest days, church organizations have held a considerable amount of the city’s real estate, which they use not only for direct religious services, but also as a means of generating income. Over the past year, we witnessed the destruction of one of the oldest properties of the kind, as the 119 year old Bancroft Building has been reduced to a pile of red brick rubble.
Anup Misra, head of East & Hudson New Rochelle, LLC, is planning to develop a six-story, 71-unit mixed-use building at 165 Huguenot Street, in downtown New Rochelle, a few blocks from the town’s Metro North station. The building will measure 64,000 square feet, and will include 3,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Units will be rentals, and will range from 500 to 975 square feet. A two-story warehouse must first be demolished, but construction is expected to begin next spring, with completion in 2017. Manhattan-based Magnusson Architecture & Planning is designing.
Back in August, Blesso Properties purchased the Lincoln Savings Bank building at 525-545 Broadway, in southern Williamsburg, and now the developer has filed applications to expand the 60,300 square-foot building by six stories and 38,000 square feet. The expanded building will have 53,403 square feet of commercial space, which will comprise both office and retail, in addition to a 6,212 square-foot day care on the ground floor. The project also includes 36 residential units, beginning on the fifth floor and averaging 1,075 square feet apiece. Garrison Architects is the architect of record.
