Within the past few months, motorists on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and nearby residents witnessed the rise of a tower crane to the east of the Kosciuszko Bridge, followed by two concrete pillars. They are seeing the progress on the east span of the Kosciuszko Bridge Replacement, the city’s first major new bridge since the Verrazano-Narrows opened over half a century ago in 1964.

22-Story, 176-Key Hotel Rising At 27-45 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City

Back in June, the 22-story, 176-key Aloft Hotel, underway at 27-45 Jackson Avenue, in Long Island City, was up to the fourth floor. Since then, construction has progressed quickly, and the structure now stands 18 stories, per The Court Square Blog. The building will measure 68,160 square feet in total, and will front Hunter Street with an eight-story component. Gene Kaufman is designing, and completion is expected next spring.

Seven-Story, Eight-Unit Residential Project Planned At 37-34 89th Street, Jackson Heights

Property owner Ruo Ruo Yang has filed applications for a seven-story, eight-unit residential building at 37-34 89th Street, in Jackson Heights, right around the corner from the 7 train’s stop at 90th Street and Elmhurst Avenue. The building will total 8,595 square feet, and units will average 1,074 square feet apiece. Chang Hwa Tan’s Flushing-based Tan Architect is designing, and permits were filed earlier this month to demolish an existing two-story home.


97-30 64th Avenue

Seven-Story, 23-Unit Mixed-Use Project Underway At 97-30 64th Avenue, Rego Park

Late last year, YIMBY reported on applications for a seven-story, 23-unit mixed-use building at 97-30 64th Avenue, in Rego Park, two blocks from the subway stop at 63rd Drive on the M and R trains. Now, DNAinfo reports construction is underway, and a rendering has appeared at the site. The building will have condominiums, which will be on the smaller side, averaging 720 square feet. Community facility space will measure 4,000 square feet on the lower portion of the building. Rego Park-based Hang Chen, with CZK Realty LLC, are developing, and Flushing-based Tan Architect is designing.
