Excavation Continues for Kohn Pedersen Fox’s 520 Fifth Avenue Supertall in Midtown, Manhattan

Excavation continues at 520 Fifth Avenue, the site of an 88-story mixed-use supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox for Rabina, which took over as the lead developer in 2019 from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA, the slender 1,002-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 507,608 square feet with 100 residential units, commercial space, and four cellar levels. Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street.

Maverick Chelsea Opens for Occupancy at 225 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

HAP Investments has received the first temporary Certificate of Occupancy for Maverick Chelsea, a 20-story residential building at 225 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by DXA Studio, MEP systems engineered by RAAD, the structure yields 112 rental units including 35 units designated for residents at 70 to 80 percent area median income (AMI).

Excavation is progressing at 520 Fifth Avenue, site of an 88-story mixed-use supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox for Rabina , which took over as the lead developer in 2019 from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA, the 1,002-foot-tall, 507,608-square-foot structure will yield 100 residential units, commercial space, and four cellar levels. Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is located on a 10,625-square-foot lot at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street.

SOM’s 12 West 57th Street Awaits Final Demolition in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 21 on our year-end countdown is 12 West 57th Street, a 672-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill and developed by Sheldon Solow of Solow Management Corp., who filed permits for the proposal in 2019, the tower will rise along Billionaires’ Row between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and West 56th and 57th Streets. Before construction can break ground, the remaining two structures occupying the plot from 10 to 20 West 57th Street must first be demolished.
