LPC Approves Lobby Renovation for 30 Rockefeller Plaza In Midtown, Manhattan

The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has approved plans for a renovation of the landmarked ground-floor lobby of 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates for owner Tishman Speyer, the project will rework the reception areas, public corridors, and lighting within the interior landmark at the base of the 66-story, 850-foot-tall Art Deco tower, alternately known as the Comcast Building.

56-12 Roosevelt Avenue Nears Topping Out in Woodside, Queens

Construction is about to top out on 56-12 Roosevelt Avenue, a six-story mixed-use residential building in Woodside, Queens. Designed by Xiaohong Zhao of Ameriland Brook LLC for Danny Chang of 5612 Management LLC, the 65-foot-tall structure will span 9,552 square feet and yield nine rental units with an average scope of 764 square feet. The project will also include 2,047 square feet of commercial space, 625 square feet of community facility space, and a 35-foot-long rear yard, according to permits filed last year. The property is located between 56th and 57th Streets.

The City Planning Commission has approved The Frances, a 21-story mixed-use residential building at 100-12 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills, Queens. Designed by Fogarty Finger and developed by Benenson Capital Partners, the nearly 280,000-square-foot structure will yield 390 rental units, with 100 designated as affordable housing. The project will also include roughly 16,200 square feet of retail and will introduce upgrades to the surrounding infrastructure. The 26,000-square-foot property is bounded by 67th Avenue and 67th Road and features 260 feet of frontage along Queens Boulevard.

Chelsea Beacon Breaks Ground At 550 West 20th Street In Chelsea, Manhattan

Construction has broken ground on Chelsea Beacon, a residential conversion and expansion of the former Bayview Correctional Facility at 550 West 20th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by COOKFOX Architects and developed by a joint venture between Camber Property Group and the Osborne Association, the $167 project will span approximately 100,000 square feet and yield up to 131 permanently affordable rental units. The development will also include a 15-unit short-term transitional residence for individuals with mental health needs, 9,300 square feet of community facility space, and a ninth-floor outdoor terrace. The property is located at the southeast corner of West 20th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from Chelsea Piers.
