RFP Released For Coney Island West Development in Coney Island, Brooklyn

Mayor Eric Adams and the New York City Economic Development Corporation have released a request for proposals (RFP) for the first city-owned parcel in Coney Island West, a redevelopment masterplan in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The initiative aims to create 1,500 new mixed-income residential units, retail space, and other public improvements including the reconstruction of Reigelmann Boardwalk, a $42 million renovation to the 55-year old Abe Stark Sports Center, shoreline enhancements along Coney Island Creek against storm surges, sewer upgrades, and new streets. Coney Island West is generally bound by Surf Avenue to the north, Coney Island Beach to the south, Maimonides Park to the east, and West 23rd Street to the west.

First NHL-Sized Ice Rink Planned For Harlem, Manhattan

Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) is planning to build Upper Manhattan‘s first NHL-sized ice rink, alongside a wellness and education center. Designed with input from Gensler, the proposed facility will feature classrooms, wellness spaces, locker rooms, bleacher seating, and a café. FSH is currently seeking an ideal site and potential partners for the project, which is expected to generate over $70 million in economic impact and create more than 300 jobs.

Housing Lottery Launches for 31-61 Vernon Boulevard in Astoria, Queens

The affordable housing lottery has launched for 31-61 Vernon Boulevard, an eight-story residential building in Astoria, Queens. Designed by S. Wieder Architect and developed by Meshulem Z. Twersky under the 31-61 Vernon Boulevard LLC , the structure yields 51 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 16 units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $105,223 to $181,740.

Updated Renderings Showcase SOM’s $700 Million New York Climate Exchange on Governors Island

Updated renderings have been revealed for the New York Climate Exchange, an environmental research facility and climate solutions center planned for Governors Island in New York Harbor. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in collaboration with MNLA, Buro Happold, and Langan Engineering, the $700 million project will consist of a 400,000-square-foot research and education hub anchored by Stony Brook University. The complex’s two all-electric buildings will be connected by a distinctive photovoltaic canopy and will use sustainable mass timber as their primary structural material. The development site is generally bound by Craig Road South along the waterfront, the Oval green lawn and West Way to the west, and several historical landmark buildings to the north above Division Road.
