Construction is approaching the finish line on 609 Second Avenue, an 18-story residential building in Kips Bay, Manhattan. Designed by Fischer + Makooi Architects and developed by The Horizon Group, the 212-foot-tall structure will span 74,528 square feet and yield 65 condominium units in studio to three-bedroom layouts, with sales led by Ariel Tirosh and Team at Douglas Elliman. Safety Netting Assembly Progresses On Thomas Heatherwick’s ‘Vessel’ Sculpture in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Remediation work is taking shape across the exterior of The Vessel in Hudson Yards, Manhattan, where netting is being installed for visitor safety. Designed by Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studio and developed by Related Companies, the 15-story, 150-foot-tall attraction opened in March 2019 but was shuttered in July 2021 after four guests leapt to their deaths from the platforms of the honeycomb-shaped structure. The safety system will incorporate steel mesh netting stretched from metal supports to close the gaps between its network of interconnecting staircases.

New Museum’s Expansion Takes Shape at 231 Bowery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Construction is progressing on the New Museum‘s seven-story expansion at 231 Bowery in the Bowery section of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Rem Koolhaas and Shohei Shigematsu of OMA and Cooper Robertson & Partners, the 174-foot-tall annex is rising directly to the south of the SANAA-designed main building, which was originally completed in 2007, and will almost double the institution’s footprint to 115,277 square feet. The 60,000-square-foot addition will connect laterally connect to the current museum and add three gallery floors, an 80-seat restaurant, a larger bookstore, and office space for staff, among other spaces. The property is located at the intersection of Bowery and Spring Street.

Construction continues to rise on 126 East 57th Street, a 28-story residential tower on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown East, Manhattan. Designed by ODA Architecture and developed by MRR Development under the MRR 1326 LLC, the 346-foot-tall structure will yield 147 condominium units with an average scope of 1,156 square feet, as well as 5,000 square feet of lower-level retail space. The property is located at the corner of East 56th Street and Lexington Avenue, with a narrow panhandle extension to East 57th Street.
