Earthwork Begins for 400-Room Hotel at 711 Seventh Avenue in Times Square, Manhattan

Site preparations are underway at 711 Seventh Avenue, the site of an upcoming 32-story hotel in Times Square. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architect and developed in a joint venture between Flintlock Construction and Atlas Hospitality, the 343-foot-tall structure will yield 400 rooms under IHG Hotel & Resorts’ voco brand. Capital Industries was the demolition contractor for the three low-rise former occupants of the property, which has been combined into an L-shaped parcel with frontage along Seventh Avenue and West 48th Street.

Work Resumes on Sir David Adjaye’s Studio Museum of Harlem at 144 West 125th Street in Harlem, Manhattan

Construction is progressing on The Studio Museum of Harlem, a new six-story home for the cultural institution at 144 West 125th Street in Harlem, Manhattan. Designed by Sir David Adjaye of Adjaye Associates with Cooper Robertson & Partners as the architect of record, the 82,000-square-foot structure will feature expanded gallery and exhibition space for more than 2,000 objects, multiple lecture halls, a roof deck, a café, and retail space. Sciame Construction LLC and McKissack & McKissack are the construction managers for the property, which is situated on an interior lot between Malcolm X Boulevard to the east and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard to the west.

107 North 1st Street Nears Completion in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is nearing completion on 107 North 1st Street, a five-story commercial building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Melamed Architects and developed by 107 North First Street Realty, LLC, the structure will yield 18,000 square feet of office space above ground-floor retail frontage. Vintage Home, Inc. is the general contractor for the property, which sits on an interior lot between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue.

Excavation Underway for Hendrix House at 429 Second Avenue in Kips Bay, Manhattan

Excavation is unfolding for Hendrix House, a 12-story residential building at 429 Second Avenue in Kips Bay, Manhattan. Designed by DXA Studio and developed by New Empire Corp., the 150-foot-tall structure will span 44,571 square feet and yield 59 condominium units and a suite of Paris Forino-designed amenity spaces. CORE Real Estate is handling sales and marketing and New Empire Builder Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Second Avenue and East 25th Street.

The Warren Street Hotel Approaches Completion at 86 Warren Street in Tribeca, Manhattan

Construction is nearing completion on the Warren Street Hotel, an 11-story building at 86 Warren Street in Tribeca. Designed by Paul Taylor with Stonehill Taylor and developed by Firmdale on a land lease from Solil Management, the 135-foot-tall structure will span 44,000 square feet and yield 69 guest rooms operated by Firmdale Hotels, as well as the 150-seat Warren Bar and Restaurant, a drawing room, an orangery, and a private event space. Pavarini McGovern is the general contractor and Kit Kemp is the interior designer for the project, which rises from the site of a former open-air parking lot between Greenwich Street and West Broadway.

New York Korea Center Awaits Finishing Touches at 122-126 East 32nd Street in Murray Hill, Manhattan

Work is wrapping up on The New York Korea Center, the new seven-story home of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea at 122-126 East 32nd Street in Murray Hill. Designed by Samoo Architects and Engineers (SAMOO) and developed by Level Group, the 120-foot-tall structure will yield 36,500 square feet and is engineered to achieve LEED Certification. KSK Construction Group is the general contractor for the property, which is located on an interior lot between Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenue.

Excavation and Demolition Underway at 729-739 Second Avenue in Murray Hill, Manhattan

Excavation is underway at 729 Second Avenue, the site of a 20-story residential building in Murray Hill, Manhattan. Designed by CetraRuddy and developed by Brause Realty, the 237-foot-tall structure will yield 120,000 square feet with 157 units and 4,600 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Titan Industrial SVC Corp and Alba Services Inc. are the demolition contractors for the property, which is located between East 38th and East 39th Streets.

Excavation Progresses for SOM’s 250 Water Street in South Street Seaport, Manhattan

Excavation is progressing at 250 Water Street, the site of a 25-story mixed-use building in the South Street Seaport district of Lower Manhattan. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and developed by The Howard Hughes Corporation, the 324-foot-tall structure will span 550,000 square feet and yield 399 total units with 100 affordable rental apartments, Class A offices, retail space, and community facility space. Suffolk Construction Company is the general contractor for the property, which is bound by Peck Slip to the northeast, Pearl Street to the northwest, Water Street to the southeast, and Beekman Street to the southwest.

Demolition Progresses for 45-Story Manhattan Detention Complex at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan

Demolition work is continuing for the Manhattan Detention Complex (MDC) at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan. Led by design-build organization Gramercy Group Inc., the $2.13 billion project will replace the aging detention center known as “The Tombs” with a 295-foot-tall structure spanning 1.25 million square feet and approximately 15 to 17 stories high. When complete, the MDC will stand as the tallest jail structure in the world and its modern facilities will help accommodate the planned closure of Rikers Island. AECOM-Hill JV is the construction manager for the property, which is bound by Walker Street to the north, the Manhattan Criminal Court Building to the south, Baxter Street to the east, and Centre Street to the west.

606 West 30th Street’s Glass Façade Nears Completion in West Chelsea, Manhattan

Façade installation is continuing on 606 West 30th Street, a 42-story residential skyscraper along the border of Hudson Yards and West Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by Lalezarian Properties, the 545-foot-tall structure will yield 312,350 square feet with 192,780 square feet of residential space and 14,240 square feet of commercial space on the lower levels. The project is referred to as Tower B in a two-skyscraper development along with the taller, completed 3ELEVEN at 601 West 29th Street from FXCollaborative and Douglaston Development. Hudson 37 LLC is the general contractor for the property, which is located on an interior lot between Eleventh Avenue and West Street, directly across from the third phase of the High Line.
