Foundation work is underway at 270 East 2nd Street, the site of a 12-story mixed-use building in Manhattan’s East Village. Designed by JCJ Architecture and developed by the non-profit Barrier Free Living, the 65,000-square-foot structure will yield 74 housing units and administrative offices for the organization, which provides both temporary and permanent housing for survivors of domestic violence with disabilities. 270 East 2nd Street Partners, LLC is listed as the owner for the $30 million project, which is located on an interior lot between Avenue C and D, directly across from Gustave Hartman Square.

280 East Houston Street Tops Out In Manhattan’s East Village

Construction has topped out on 280 East Houston Street, a 12-story residential building in Manhattan’s East Village. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by SMA Equities, the structure will span 224,809 square feet and yield 157 apartments with an average scope of 1,324 square feet, as well as 12,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 1,300 square feet for a community facility. Whitehall Interiors is the interior designer for the project, which is located on an elongated trapezoidal interior lot between Avenue A and Avenue B. REAL New York is handling marketing and leasing for the project.

Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Grubb Properties, which purchased the property for $63 million in 2021, the 311-foot-tall structure will yield 417 rental units with 124 reserved for affordable housing, as well as 7,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. The project is located between Crescent and 27th Streets, directly adjacent to the elevated Queensboro Plaza station serving the 7, N, and W trains.

Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Red Apple Group under the RA 280 Development LLC, the 113-foot-tall structure will span 58,021 square feet and yield 64 rental units with an average scope of 819 square feet, as well as 4,642 square feet of commercial space, 947 square feet of community facility space, a cellar level, and a 24-foot-long rear yard. The property is situated at the corner of Eighth Avenue and West 24th Street.

Construction is nearing completion on Beach Channel Apartments, an eight-story affordable housing building at 13-12 Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, Queens. Designed by Urban Architecture Initiatives (UAI) and developed by BRC and Camber Property Group, the structure is set to yield 147 affordable units and 100 shelter units with supportive services, as well as residential amenities and a 1,239-square-foot community facility on the ground floor. The property is located on an interior lot between Beach Channel Drive and Redfern Avenue.
