Ground Broken on Community Gym and Public Park Space at 700 Jackson Street, Hoboken

A ground-breaking ceremony was held last week for the first phase of a mixed-use project at 700 Jackson Street, located on two blocks between 6th and 8th streets in Hoboken, N.J. The first phase will see the construction of a single-story, 6,835-square-foot community gymnasium along Jackson Street, between 6th and 7th streets, and public park space across both blocks. Significant infrastructure work will also be done as part of the first phase, expected to be complete by 2019, Jersey Digs reported.

Potential HUD Cuts Under Trump Threaten Bedford Union Armory Affordable Housing

Just over a year ago, city officials and Knicks player Carmelo Anthony stood in the cavernous Bedford Union Armory in Crown Heights and announced plans to redevelop the historic structure into affordable housing, a recreation center, and condos. Last night, City Councilmember Laurie Cumbo revealed that the city wasn’t sure how much federal housing funding it would receive under the Trump administration, and that uncertainty was threatening negotiations over the city budget and affordable housing at the armory.

Five-Story, 10-Unit Mixed-Use Building Filed at 52-22 Roosevelt Avenue, Woodside

An anonymous Glen Head, N.Y.-based LLC has filed applications for a five-story, 10-unit mixed-use building at 52-22 Roosevelt Avenue, located on the corner of 53rd Street in Woodside. The project will measure 25,063 square feet and rise 55 feet to its roof. There will be 3,062 square feet of ground-floor retail space, followed by 4,538 square feet of medical office space on the second floor. The residential units will spread across the third through fifth floors, averaging 1,060 square feet apiece. Chinatown-based Z Architecture is the architect of record. The 4,908-square-foot lot is occupied by three-story building. Demolition permits have not been filed.

Four-Story, Three-Unit Mixed-Use Building Coming to 716 57th Street, Sunset Park

A Brooklyn-based property owner has filed applications for a four-story, three-unit mixed-use building at 716 57th Street, on the southern end of Sunset Park. The project will measure 5,856 square feet and rise 42 feet to its roof. There will be 1,080 square feet of medical office space on the ground floor, followed one apartment per floor on the second through fourth floors. The apartments should average 975 square feet apiece, which means either condominiums or rentals could be in the works. Luis C. Wong’s Flushing-based engineering firm is the applicant of record. The 20-foot-wide, 2,003-square-foot lot is vacant.
