Construction Resumes on H Hotel W39 at 58 West 39th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction has resumed on H Hotel W39, a 29-story hotel at 58 West 39th Street in Midtown. Designed by Peter F. Poon Architects and developed by Wei Hong Hu of H Hotel LLC, the 447-foot-tall project had been stalled since the early months of 2020. City Cross Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the structure, whose design features a radical cantilever that gives way to a tapered glass dome. The footprint of the tower rests on a relatively narrow plot between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just south of Bryant Park.

New renderings have been revealed for The Cortland, Robert A. M. Stern Architects‘ latest residential project at 555 West 22nd Street in West Chelsea. Developed by Related Companies with SLCE Architects as the architect of record, the 25-story reinforced concrete edifice stands topped out nearly 300 feet and will yield 144 residential units spread over 250,000 square feet, for an average of 2,245 square feet. The building rises along West Street across from Hudson River Park between West 22nd and West 23rd Streets.

Construction is rising on 241 West 28th Street, a 22-story residential project in Chelsea. Designed by COOKFOX for MAG Partners, Atalaya, Safanad, and Qualitas, the 248,000-square-foot two-tower development will yield 479 units with 30 percent reserved for low- and middle-income households. King Contracting Group is doing the brick work and Urban Atelier Group is the general contractor for the complex, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.

550 Madison Avenue Officially Unveils New Lobby in Midtown East, Manhattan

YIMBY attended the recent unveiling of the newly renovated lobby of 550 Madison Avenue, a 37-story, 684-foot-tall office skyscraper in Midtown East. Designed by Gensler and developed by The Olayan Group and RXR Realty, the project involves a 21,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor overhaul of the 1984 postmodern landmark from Philip Johnson and John Burgee. In addition to the updated lobby, which features an art installation from Polish-German contemporary visual artist Alicja Kwade called Solid Sky, the undertaking will also provide a new café, elevated and ground-level landscaping, expanded seating with additional tables, and public restrooms. 550 Madison Avenue spans between East 55th and 56th Streets.
