KPF’s 520 Fifth Avenue Supertall Rises Above Street Level in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is rising above street level on 520 Fifth Avenue, a 76-story residential supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 1,000-foot-tall structure will span 507,608 square feet yield 98 residential units, as well as commercial space on the lower floors and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the facade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

Curtain Wall Installation Begins on JPMorgan Headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

The first curtain wall panels have begun installation on JPMorgan Chase‘s rising 1,388-foot supertall headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East. Designed by Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 70-story skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space for 15,000 employees, and will become the tallest structure in New York powered entirely by hydroelectric energy. Adamsom Associates is the architect of record, Banker Steel provided the steelwork, NYC Constructors is the steel subcontractor, Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE) designed the structural foundation elements, Severud Associates is the engineer of record, R&R Scaffolding Ltd. will provide the BMU, and AEOCOM Tishman is the general contractor for the property, which occupies a full block bound by East 48th Street to the north, East 47th Street to the south, Park Avenue to the east, and Madison Avenue to the west.

604 Fifth Avenue Wraps Up Renovation Work in Midtown, Manhattan

Renovation work is complete on 604 Fifth Avenue, a six-story commercial building in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by William Van Alen, architect of the Chrysler Building, the 65-foot-tall structure opened as the Childs Building in 1924 and most recently housed an 18,000-square-foot TGI Fridays. Japanese confectioner Minamoto Kitchoan purchased the property from The Riese Organization for $45 million in April 2021 for its new flagship store. Andrew Pettit Architect was the designer and Cross Management Corp. was the general contractor for the interior and exterior renovation project, which is located between East 48th and 49th Streets.

East Midtown Greenway Nears Completion Along the Sutton Place Waterfront in Midtown, Manhattan

Work is closing in on completion on the East Midtown Greenway, a 1.8-acre public promenade along the East River waterfront in Turtle Bay. Designed by Stantec, the 2,000-foot-long plaza runs from East 53rd to 61st Streets and is the second phase of the three-segment East Midtown Waterfront Esplanade, which will eventually stretch down to East 38th Street with recreation space for pedestrians and bicyclists. The $100 million project is located to the east of the FDR Drive and will also include a new park entrance at East 60th Street, a pedestrian bridge, and the revamping of Andrew Haswell Green Park and the Alice Aycock Pavilion.
