This week, the City Planning Commission approved 550 Madison Avenue‘s Snøhetta-designed gardens. The public space surrounding the iconic Midtown East office tower will measure 21,000 square feet and include a café, elevated and ground-level landscaping, expanded seating and additional tables, and public bathrooms.
Developer Tishman Speyer and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP have finalized negotiations for a massive 530,000-square-foot office at 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral. The global law firm expects to relocate its headquarters from 919 Third Avenue in the second half of 2022. With this latest transaction, Tishman Speyer has now successfully pre-leased 54 percent of the building.
YIMBY’s 2019 New Building Report, released this time last year, showed a major jump in applications from 2017 into 2018, with new residential units filed with the Department of Buildings rising from 20,393 to 34,039. YIMBY’s 2020 New Construction Report shows that citywide gains continued into 2019, with total units filed increasing to 36,467, a jump of 2,428 or 7.1%. Construction is now above street level at 58 West 39th Street, aka H Hotel W39, in Midtown. Designed by Peter F. Poon Architect and developed by Wei Hong Hu of H Hotel LLC, the 29-story structure is rising from a narrow plot below Bryant Park between Fifth and Sixth Avenue.
Construction has reached the final floors of 368 Third Avenue in the Manhattan neighborhood of Kips Bay. The 388-foot-tall reinforced concrete structure has risen rapidly since mid-June, when excavation was still underway. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Minrav Development, the 35-story, 145,000-square-foot building will house 100 apartments for an average of 1,100 square feet apiece.
