660 Fifth Avenue’s New Curtain Wall Reaches Roof Parapet in Midtown, Manhattan

Re-cladding work is wrapping up on 660 Fifth Avenue, a 39-story commercial tower in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Brookfield Properties, the project involves extensive interior renovations of the 64-year-old building’s 1.25 million square feet of office space and the complete replacement of its mid-century curtain wall with a more transparent modern envelope. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor for the property, which is located along Fifth Avenue between West 52nd and 53rd Streets and was formerly addressed as 666 Fifth Avenue. The developer is aiming for LEED Gold certification.

550 Madison Avenue’s Landscaped Public Plaza Nears Completion in Midtown East, Manhattan

Work is nearing completion on the new public plaza adjacent to 550 Madison Avenue, a landmarked 37-story commercial skyscraper in Midtown East. Developed by The Olayan Group and RXR Realty, the 684-foot-tall postmodern building is undergoing a 21,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor renovation, which includes a triple-height steel-framed glass canopy designed by Snøhetta and a revamped lobby designed by Gensler. AECOM Tishman is serving as the general contractor for the project, which is located between East 55th and 56th Streets and is aiming for LEED Platinum and WELL Gold certifications.

YIMBY has an exclusive set of new renderings for a 47-story residential skyscraper at 550 Tenth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 430,000-square-foot tower will yield 453 units with 316 at market rate and 137 for moderate and middle incomes, as well as 9,000 square feet of retail space, over 20,000 square feet of amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. Demolition is complete and foundations are underway at the site, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.

Construction is complete on 115 East 55th Street, an 18-story residential building in Midtown East. Designed by SLCE Architects for Zeckendorf Development, the 185-foot-tall structure yields 71,961 square feet and 58 units. CM & Associates Construction Management served as the general contractor for the Midtown property, which is located on a relatively small plot between Lexington and Park Avenues, directly to the east of Norman Foster‘s 425 Park Avenue.
