LPC Reviews Howard Hughes’ Proposals for 250 Water Street in the Financial District, Manhattan

The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is now reviewing proposals from Howard Hughes Corporation to construct a new pair of high-rise towers at 250 Water Street and a multi-phase expansion of the South Street Seaport Museum in Manhattan’s Financial District. The developer has selected Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as lead architect with supporting design services from JHPA and historic preservation experts Higgins Quasebarth & Partners.

Santiago Calatrava’s St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Continues to Take Shape in the Financial District

Work is continuing on Santiago Calatrava‘s St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in the Financial District. Located by the intersection of Greenwich Street and Liberty Street in the elevated Liberty Park, the structure will serve as the new home for the long-established church that was formerly located at 155 Cedar Street until it was destroyed on 9/11. Calatrava’s architectural concept for the church was inspired by Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia and Church of the Holy Savior of Chora. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is developing the project, which sits directly to the south of the original 16-acre World Trade Center complex.

Steelwork Continues on The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center in the Financial District

Construction is continuing on the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center in the Financial District. Designed by REX with Davis Brody Bond Architects as the executive architect and developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the 138-foot-tall structure is one of the final components of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex.

Permits Filed for 815 Broadway in Greenwich Village, Manhattan

Permits have been filed for an 11-story mixed-use building at 815 Broadway in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Located between East 11th and East 12th Streets, the interior lot is two blocks south of the 14th Street-Union Square subway station, serviced by the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, and W trains. Magnum Real Estate Group is listed as the owner behind the applications.

LPC Approves Major Residential Expansion at 315 Broadway in Tribeca

The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has approved the residential redevelopment of a historic mixed-use building at 315 Broadway in Tribeca. The landmarked structure was originally constructed around 1861 and currently contains a small retail component on the ground floor and four loft spaces above.

Hotel Indigo Continues to Rise at 50 Trinity Place in Financial District

Construction is continuing to rise at 50 Trinity Place, a 28-story Hotel Indigo in the Financial District. The 173-room, 77,310-square-foot structure is designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by FIT Investment Corporation, which purchased the property in 2012 for $15 million. The site is located at the corner of Trinity Place and Rector Street.

Revamped Design For Foster + Partners’ Two World Trade Center Awaits Reveal, In Financial District

Number five on YIMBY’s end-of-year countdown is Two World Trade Center, aka 200 Greenwich Street, a 1,350-foot-tall office skyscraper and the last major component of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex. Earlier this year, it was announced that Norman Foster of Foster + Partners would return as the architect for project, which is being developed by Larry Silverstein, head of Silverstein Properties. However, the highly anticipated revamped design of Foster’s original 2006 proposal has yet to be revealed.

LPC Grants Preliminary Approval for Rooftop Addition at 224 West 10th Street in Greenwich Village

DCP Architecture has won preliminary approvals from the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) to construct a new rooftop volume atop a historic three-story townhouse in Greenwich Village. Located at 224 West 10th Street, the project will not move forward until the design team modifies the proposed volume to further reduce visibility of the rooftop volume from West 10th Street and Christopher Street.

HPD Awards $13.6 Million in Tax Credits for 583 Affordable Housing Units

This week the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) announced $13.6 million in housing tax credits was awarded to seven developments. These projects will be responsible for creating and preserving 583 affordable units throughout the city.
