29-Story, 57-Unit Condo Tower Wraps Up Construction At 301 East 50th Street,

YIMBY last brought you an update on the 29-story & 57-unit tower at 301 East 50th Street, in Midtown East, back in November of 2014. Since then, the building has received the rest of its façade, per Curbed. CBSK Ironstate is developing, and the building will also include 6,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The limestone-clad structure was designed by COOKFOX Architects, and opening can probably be expected before the year’s end.

Revealed: 440 Washington Street, 41-Unit Tribeca Residential Development

Back in December, YIMBY reported that an LLC filed applications for a new development at 440 Washington Street, in Tribeca. And now, we have the first renderings of the residential project, which is being developed by Ponte Equities and designed by OCV Architects.

Back in May, a developer filed plans to convert a warehouse into a nightclub at 599 Johnson Avenue, on the western edge of Bushwick’s industrial business zone. Now we have the first look at the warehouse’s transformation, which will liven up a pretty dead commercial block between Scott and Gardner Avenues.

Just east of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, Prospect Lefferts Gardens is seeing almost as much new construction as its pricier neighbor to the north, Crown Heights. Filings for new buildings roll in every few weeks, ranging from little market-rate developments to partially affordable megaprojects from developer Hudson Companies. Now we have an application for a five-story apartment building at 195 Hawthorne Street, between Bedford and Rogers Avenues.

New Renderings, Update For 11-Story Condo Project At 520 West 28th Street, West Chelsea

Over the summer, Related Companies’ 11-story, 39-unit mixed-use building at 520 West 28th Street, in West Chelsea, was just starting to climb above street level, and now Curbed has a slew of new exterior and interior renderings via the project’s teaser site. The building will be topped by a 6,391 square-foot triplex penthouse, and 11,180 square feet of retail space is planned on the ground floor. Zaha Hadid is designing the project, Hayes Davidson crafted the renderings, and completion is expected in late 2016.

Residential Conversion Planned At 20 Broad Street, 27-Story Office Building In Financial District

Back in August, Vornado Realty Trust mulled the idea of a residential conversion at the 27-story, 473,000 square-foot office building at 20 Broad Street, in the Financial District. Now, Nathan Berman is purchasing the leasehold from Vornado and reportedly following through with the conversion to rental apartments, per Crain’s. The New York Stock Exchange — expected to vacate the structure next August — owns the land under the building, and the lease expires in 2081.

The Death and Life of the Bancroft Building, 1896-2015

Since New York’s earliest days, church organizations have held a considerable amount of the city’s real estate, which they use not only for direct religious services, but also as a means of generating income. Over the past year, we witnessed the destruction of one of the oldest properties of the kind, as the 119 year old Bancroft Building has been reduced to a pile of red brick rubble.

20,000 Square-Foot Fire House Planned At 1815 Sterling Place, Ocean Hill

The New York City Fire Department has filed applications for a two-story, 19,082 square-foot facility at 1815 Sterling Place, in Ocean Hill. The building will stand 46 feet tall, boasting very high ceilings for the ground-floor fire house. The facility will include offices, storage, a kitchen, dormitories, and fitness and training rooms, per the Schedule A. The facility is associated with the multi-building Prospect Plaza residential development, located on the same and surrounding blocks. As for the fire house, Jeanne Gang’s Chicago-based Studio Gang Architects is designing.

Renovations Planned for 43-Story Office Building At 1407 Broadway, Midtown

Shorenstein Properties is renovating the 43-story, 1.1-million square-foot office building at 1407 Broadway, between West 38th and 39th Street, according to Real Estate Weekly. The updates will include a new lobby, entrance and retail space, as well as façade improvements on the rest of the building. Roughly 33,000 square feet of retail space will span the ground floor, and Fogarty Finger is leading the design process. Shorenstein acquired the building for $330 million this past spring.

Six-Story, 71-Unit Mixed-Use Building Planned At 165 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle

Anup Misra, head of East & Hudson New Rochelle, LLC, is planning to develop a six-story, 71-unit mixed-use building at 165 Huguenot Street, in downtown New Rochelle, a few blocks from the town’s Metro North station. The building will measure 64,000 square feet, and will include 3,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Units will be rentals, and will range from 500 to 975 square feet. A two-story warehouse must first be demolished, but construction is expected to begin next spring, with completion in 2017. Manhattan-based Magnusson Architecture & Planning is designing.
