The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation has unveiled a new outdoor monument honoring renowned journalist Nellie Bly. Located on the island’s northern tip, “The Girl Puzzle” consists of five bronze faces sculpted in the image of Bly and anonymous female faces representing Asian American, Black, young, older, and queer women.
Permits have been filed for a 22-story, mixed-use two-tower development at 395 Carroll Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Located between Bond Street and Nevins Avenue, the lot is adjacent to the Gowanus Canal. The R train at the Union Street subway station and the F and G trains at the Carroll Street station are within walking distance of the site. Rafael Rabinowitz of Galaxy Developers LLC is listed as the owner behind the permit, which was filed as one building with two separate towers and a combined six-story podium.
At number 20 on our year-end countdown is a pair of mixed-use residential skyscrapers at 495 Eleventh Avenue in Midtown West, Manhattan. Designed by FXCollaborative with Gene Kaufman Architects as the architect of record, the 589,842-square-foot project consists of a 680-foot-tall, 57-story edifice paired with a slightly shorter 653-foot-tall, 56-story sibling that will rise along Eleventh Avenue between West 39th and West 40th Streets, next to the Jakob K. Javits Center. NYC Economic Development Corporation is listed as the owner behind the applications that were filed back in late October.
Work is continuing to wrap up on 115 East 55th Street, an 18-story residential building in Midtown East. Designed by SLCE Architects for Zeckendorf Development, the 185-foot-tall reinforced concrete structure will yield 71,961 square feet and 58 units. CM& Associates Construction Management, LLC is the general contractor for the property, which is located on a relatively small site between Lexington and Park Avenues, directly to the east of Norman Foster’s 425 Park Avenue.
New renderings from S. Wieder Architect are the first to reveal a 16-story mixed-use building at 35 Fourth Avenue in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. The building will comprise just over 132,000 square feet with a mix of rental apartments, retail space, a community facility, and a parking garage.
