701 Seventh Avenue’s 18,000-Square Foot LED Screen Goes Live, Times Square

Last week, YIMBY reported that testing had begun on 701 Seventh Avenue’s enormous new billboard. Now, it has been activated in full, as photographed yesterday by mchlanglo793. The 18,000 square-foot LED screen is the largest in Times Square, and will soon be joined by a 17,000 square-foot screen immediately across the street, at 1568 Broadway, site of the former Doubletree Hotel. As for 701 Seventh Avenue, aka the Marriott Edition Times Square, the exterior is almost fully glassed, and opening is a few months out.

55 Hudson Yards Tops Out 51 Floors and 780 Feet Above Street Level, Midtown West

Yesterday, YIMBY brought you fresh renderings of Related’s planned supertall at 50 Hudson Yards. While permits for that project were only partially filed earlier this year, across Hudson Park & Boulevard, the building’s sibling at 55 Hudson Yards has now officially topped-out, as seen in the latest photos from Tectonic.

Extell’s 252 South Street Approaches Topping-Out, Lower East Side

As the Lower Lower East Side continues to see additional proposals for new supertall towers, the neighborhood’s first legitimate skyscraper is approaching its topping-out, per the latest from Tectonic. Extell’s tower at 252 South Street, aka One Manhattan Square, is about ten floors away from its uppermost 72nd floor, which will stand 850 feet above the streets down below.

One Vanderbilt Gets Its Crane, Midtown East

One Vanderbilt has been in the makings for quite some time, and while it took several years and a special pre-Midtown East rezoning approval for work to begin at the site, things are now chugging along with gusto. Steelwork for the soon-to-be 1,401-foot-tall tower breached street level about a month ago, and now, the future supertall’s crane has arrived on-site, heralding imminent verticality.

10 Jay Street’s Glassy New Facade Rising, DUMBO, Brooklyn

Glacier Global Partners’ renovation and refurbishment of the 230,000 square-foot warehouse at 10 Jay Street is making major progress, per the latest photos from Tectonic. The 10-story building is receiving a glassy new facade designed by ODA New York, which was first revealed in a video posted by Curbed back in February of 2015. The crystalline exterior is up to the eighth floor of the structure, and completion is likely within the next year or so.

The Edition Hotel’s LED Screen Gets Ready to Light Up at 701 Seventh Avenue, Times Square

The new Marriott Edition Hotel coming to 701 Seventh Avenue, in Times Square, is approaching its opening day, with glass now covering most of the exterior per the latest photos from Tectonic. While the tower portion of the development stands 42 floors and 512 feet to the rooftop, barely cracking into the mid-levels of the Midtown skyscraper plateau, the base of the development will imminently become iconic on a global level, thanks to an 18,000 square-foot LED screen that promises to become the largest and brightest in Times Square.

Terracotta and Bronze Appear as 111 West 57th Street Continues Climbing Into Skyline, Midtown

Now that 111 West 57th Street is above the floors complicated by the adjacent Steinway Building, which is being integrated into the base of the supertall, the future 1,428-foot-tall tower is shooting upwards. The latest photos of progress come from Streetscaper and Tectonic, and besides new floors being added on a weekly basis, the exterior of the tower is now receiving its terracotta and bronze facade.

Work Finally Resumes on 125 Greenwich Street, Financial District

YIMBY recently revealed the latest images for 125 Greenwich Street, which has continued to see minor modifications to its design. Though the tower’s foundation work has been completed for about two years, the site has sat fallow while searching for financing. The refreshed renderings came with recent news that the project secured a $450 million construction loan, and now, with financing secured and the plans for the building finalized, rebar is finally rising.

With the firm’s supertall at 217 West 57th Street well under construction and 252 South Street even farther along, work is now advancing on the company’s first Brooklyn skyscraper, which will become Citypoint’s third, and tallest, tower. 111 Murray Street’s Facade Nearly Complete, Tribeca

In the southern bounds of Tribeca, to the southwest of the already-completed 56 Leonard, another major tower is nearing the finish line. 111 Murray Street has been topped-out for several months, and now its cladding is following, reaching about fifteen floors below the skyscraper’s pinnacle.
