Columbia University’s Two-Building Expansion Nears Completion in Manhattanville, Manhattan

Construction is wrapping up on Columbia University‘s new two-building expansion on its Skidmore Owings & Merrill-planned Manhattanville campus. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with FXCollaborative, the Henry R. Kravis Building and the East Building, formerly known as the Ronald O. Perelman Center for Business Innovation, will yield a combined total of 450,000 square feet of classrooms, faculty offices, and lounge areas. Separating the two structures will be a landscaped public plaza and green space designed by James Corner Field Operations. The project site is bound by West 130th Street to the south, West 131st street to the north, the elevated Riverside Drive highway to the west, and Broadway to the east.

660 Fifth Avenue’s New Glass Curtain Wall Rises in Midtown, Manhattan

The new glass curtain wall has begun installation on 660 Fifth Avenue, a 39-story commercial building in Midtown, Manhattan. Formerly addressed as 666 Fifth Avenue, the office tower is in the process of having its mid-century façade replaced with a modern envelope in a project designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Brookfield Properties. The 1.5-million-square-foot property is located between West 52nd and 53rd Streets.

Taystee Lab Building Nears Completion at 450 West 126th Street in Manhattanville, Manhattan

Exterior work is wrapping up on the Taystee Lab Building, an 11-story mixed-use project at 450 West 126th Street in the Manhattanville section of West Harlem. Designed by LEVENBETTS and SLCE and developed by Janus Property Group, the 350,000-square-foot building will yield Class A office space as well as lab facilities and additional space for organizations devoted to life sciences, technology, academic and non-profit programs, retail, and the arts. The complex gets its name from the Taystee Cake Bakery Factory that once stood on the plot. BR+A Consulting Engineers constructed the rectangular reinforced concrete structure and LendLease served as the construction manager for the edifice. 450 West 126th Street is located between Amsterdam Avenue to the west and Morningside Avenue to the east.

Glass Curtain Installation Begins on Tiffany & Co.’s Expansion in Midtown, Manhattan

Installation of the wavy glass curtain wall has begun on the steel-framed addition atop Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store at 727 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by OMA partners Shohei Shigematsu and Jake Forster, the project involves a three-story addition over the original roof line of the 71-year-old Art Moderne building, which is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. CallisonRTKL is the architect of record and Peter Marino Architects is handling the interior renovations for the iconic jewelry store. Tiffany & Co. temporarily relocated its flagship to an adjacent storefront at 6 East 57th Street during construction.

Construction has topped out on 141 East Houston Street, a ten-story mixed-use office building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Roger Ferris + Partners and developed by East End Capital and K Property Group, the 68,000-square-foot structure will yield office space as well as retail on the ground floor and two cellar levels. The property is located between Forsyth Street to the west and Eldridge Street to the east on a plot that was formerly occupied by the Sunshine Cinema.
