Demolition Nears Completion for 40-Story Office Skyscraper at 415 Madison Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

The 17th-tallest building on our year-end countdown is 415 Madison Avenue, a 40-story commercial skyscraper in Midtown East. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by 415 Madison Avenue LLC, the 605-foot-tall tower will yield 343,100 square feet of office space, a 350-square-foot ground-floor retail pavilion, and a 2,400-square-foot open-air public concourse. The project is being constructed in compliance with the East Midtown sub-district regulations, with air rights purchased from the landmarked St. Bartholomew’s Church along Park Avenue. PAL Environmental Services is the general contractor and Rudin Management is the owner of the property, which is located at the corner of Madison Avenue and East 48th Street.

Domino Sugar Signage Installed Atop The Refinery at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction on the Domino Sugar Refinery has reached a major milestone with the installation of the signature signage atop the 140-year-old former factory, which is undergoing a commercial conversion and expansion at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) and developed by Two Trees, the $250 million project is known as The Refinery and involves a full gut renovation and construction of a 27,000-square-foot glass-clad barrel vault atop the parapet, bringing the structure’s total height to 235 feet. Dencityworks and Bonetti/Kozerski are the interior designers for the property, which is located along the East River waterfront between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets.

Foundations Underway for 47-Story Skyscraper at 550 Tenth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan 

Number 24 on YIMBY’s countdown of the tallest projects underway in New York is 550 Tenth Avenue, a 47-story residential skyscraper in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 520-foot-tall structure will span 430,000 square feet and yield 453 units, with 137 for moderate and middle incomes, as well as 9,000 square feet of retail space, over 20,000 square feet of residential amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. GO Covenant LLC is the owner and Monadnock Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.
