Commercial Renovation Underway At Brooklyn Navy Yard’s 16-Story, One-Million Square-Foot Building 77

Back in July, details were revealed of the planned renovation of Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Building 77 — a 16-story, one million-square-foot industrial building — and now Brownstoner reports work is well underway. Retail space is planned on the ground floor, along with a 60,000 square-foot public food hall, and the floors above will be leased to commercial and manufacturing tenants. Beyer Blinder Belle and Marvel Architects are designing the city-funded project, which is expected to open for business in the second half of 2016.

Four-Story, Six-Unit Residential Building Planned At 19 Malta Street, East New York

Aviram Chen, doing business as an anonymous LLC, has filed applications for a four-story, six-unit residential building at 19 Malta Street, in East New York’s western neighborhood of New Lots. Located five blocks from the L train’s stop at New Lots Avenue, the structure will measure 4,222 square feet, which means units will average a rental-sized 704 square feet apiece. An existing garage structure will have to be demolished, but the lot is otherwise empty. Queens-based Gerald Caliendo is the architect of record.

Five-Story, Eight-Unit Residential Building Planned At 27-21 27th Street, Astoria

Property owner Alan Richer, doing business as an anonymous LLC, has filed applications for a five-story, eight-unit residential building at 27-21 27th Street, in Astoria, three blocks from the 30th Avenue stop on the N and Q trains. It will measure 5,726 square feet, which means units will average a rental-sized 716 square feet apiece. Some will be duplexes, according to the Schedule A. Astoria-based Christopher Papa is the architect of record, and an existing two-story townhouse must first be demolished.

15-Story, 49-Unit Condo Project At 160 Leroy Street Slated For 2016 Completion, West Village

In the summer of 2014, YIMBY revealed renderings of Ian Schrager’s planned residential building at 160 Leroy Street (a.k.a. 357 West Street), in the West Village, and now The New York Times has an update on the project. The Herzog & de Meuron-designed structure will actually stand 15 stories and accommodate 49 condominium units, which will range from 1,100 to 6,000 square feet. A 12,000 square-foot penthouse will top the building. Madison Cox Associates is also designing a 9,750 square-foot courtyard and Christian Liaigre is designing the interiors. The assemblage’s existing buildings are now being razed, and completion is expected by the end of 2016.

Backfilling Begins For 84-Unit Residential Development At 5 Atlantic Avenue, East Rockaway

Beechwood Organization has demolish the dilapidated warehouses at 5 Atlantic Avenue, in East Rockaway, and is now backfilling the property to make way for an 84-unit residential development. The project, dubbed Marina Pointe, will consists of four-story buildings in the form of attached townhouses and condominiums, LI Herald reports. Site preparation should be complete by early 2016, with construction following shortly after. Completion is expected before 2017. The site is located across the street from the East Rockaway Long Island Rail Road station, in southern Nassau County.
