At the corner of Pontiac Place and Jackson Avenue in the Melrose section of the South Bronx, a new building application has been filed for a six-story mixed-use building with ground floor retail and community space.
The six-story, 53-unit supportive housing development at 437 Herkimer Street, in southern Bedford-Stuyvesant, is wrapping up construction and expected to open this summer, DNAinfo reports. The affordable housing group The Bridge will service the complex, and the building will feature solar panels on the roof and a wide range of amenities for its tenants.
Mayor de Blasio unveiled his grand plan to fix 421-a this week, and his proposal requires any developer who wants to take advantage of the property tax exemption to set aside 25 to 30 percent of their units as affordable housing. And the abatement would be extended from 25 to 30 years, in an attempt to make the measure more palatable to developers.
Brokelyn spotted the incoming 223 affordable units becoming available at the affordable mixed-use development dubbed Livonia Commons, with buildings at 491 Sheffield, 494 Sheffield, 494 Georgia, and 481 Williams Avenues, in East New York. L+M Dev. Partners and Dunn Dev. Corp. are the developers, and retail space will measure 16,000 square feet. Completion is expected in the beginning of 2016.
