111 Varick Street’s Signature Geometric Façade is Rising Above Hudson Square

Work has begun on the curtain wall of 111 Varick Street, a topped-out 27-story residential building in Hudson Square. Designed by S9 Architecture and developed by Madigan Development, project is located at the northern corner of Varick Street and Broome Street, near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. CM & Associates is in charge of the construction process, which has shifted to the installation of the building’s signature slate-colored geometric paneling.

Permits Filed for 83, 91-95 Gateway Drive in Starrett City, Brooklyn

The Department of Housing Preservation and Development has filed permits for four residential buildings at 83, 91, 93, and 95 Gateway Drive in East New York‘s Starrett City. Michael Gelfand of MHG Architects is listed as the architect of record for the four-story developments, which will be located adjacent to the Gateway Center shopping mall.

Developers Reveal a Two-Building Mixed-Use Development at 22-60 46th Street in Astoria, Queens

Mega Realty Holding and the Pancyprian Association are working in partnership to develop a new mixed-use property at 22-60 46th Street in the Ditmars-Steinway section of Astoria, Queens. Pending approvals from the city’s Department of Buildings, the development would yield 173,000 square feet of affordable and market-rate rentals, retail, and a small performance venue for the Cyprian and Hellenic communities.

Proposal for Improvements to Harlem’s Lenox Terrace Begins Public Review

A proposal to significantly improve Harlem‘s massive Lenox Terrace housing complex has begun public review as part of the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure process. Plans call for the addition of mixed-income housing, six acres of green space, and retail to the site located between Lenox Avenue and Fifth Avenue, and from 132nd to 135th Streets. Lenox Terrace comprises over six square blocks and houses more than 4,000 people across six buildings.

533 Mercer Street, aka 289 Jordan, Begins Ascent Over Jersey City

Construction at 533 Mercer Street, aka 289 Jordan, has risen above street level in the McGinley Square neighborhood of Jersey City. Located at the intersection of Mercer Street and Jordan Street, the 16-story mixed-use residential property will contain a total of 300 apartments. These will include 56 affordable housing units, 138 studios, 90 one-bedroom homes, 33 two-bedrooms, and six three-bedroom homes. The project is being designed by Marchetto Higgins Stieve Architects and developed by Mercer Jordan LLC, an affiliate of New York-based company Sequoia Development Group, GRID Real Estate and Dresdner Robin.

Permits have been filed for a six-story mixed-use building at 410 Warwick Street in East New York, Brooklyn. Located between Glenmore Avenue and Pitkin Avenue, the property is also addressed as 2337 Pitkin Avenue. The development is five blocks to the east of the Van Siclen Avenue subway station, serviced by the A and C trains. Concern for the Independent Living is listed as the owner behind the applications.

Dunn Development Corp. Secures Financing for 100-Percent Affordable Housing Development at 880 East 147th Street in the South Bronx

Dunn Development Corp. recently secured $37 million in construction financing for Austin 147, an 80-unit supportive and affordable housing block at 880 East 147th Street in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx. CAMBA, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization, will provide supportive services to the clients who reside in the building after it’s completed. The new property is expected to debut by summer 2021.

Dattner Architects Reveals New Proposals For Empire State Dairy Expansion at 2840 Atlantic Avenue, in East New York

Following initial feedback from the Landmarks Preservation Commission, Dattner Architects is scheduled for another round of public hearings to present plans for a major restoration and expansion of the former Empire State Dairy building at 2840 Atlantic Avenue in East New York. New renderings of the project reveal a modified façade, reorganization of rooftop mechanicals, and slightly altered window systems.
