Handel Architects’ 451 Tenth Avenue Makes Swift Excavation Progress In Hudson Yards

Excavation is getting deeper at 451 Tenth Avenue in Hudson Yards, site of a 580-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper from Handel Architects. Bryan Cho of Related Companies filed permits in early June 2019 for the 44-story building, which will rise directly to the north of 66 Hudson BoulevardBjarke Ingels‘ supertall known as The Spiral. A great deal of earth has been excavated from the lot, a former parking lot located between West 35th and 36th Streets and Tenth Avenue and Hudson Boulevard. Spitzer Enterprises is co-developing alongside Related.

Construction Reaches Street Level at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards

Construction is approaching street level at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards, site of a 487-foot-tall, 531-room hotel. A good deal of progress has occurred since site YIMBY’s update last October, when excavation was just wrapping up and the foundations walls were still being formed. Designed by DSM Design Group, developed by Marx Development Group, and due to operate under Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, 450 Eleventh Avenue is located between West 36th and 37th Streets, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

685 Fifth Avenue. Rendering via Marin Architects

685 Fifth Avenue Prepares For Residential Conversion and Addition in Midtown

Scaffolding and black netting shrouds nearly all of 685 Fifth Avenue in preparation for a 100,000-square-foot office-to-condominium conversion. The project will also add ten floors atop the existing 20-story structure, which sits at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street. Developed by Michael Shvo’s SHVO in partnership with BLG Holdings and Deutsche Financial, the finished building will stand 350 feet tall and contain 69 condominiums managed by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. Marin is the architect of record and designer for the $135 million project with March & White handling the interior designs. Brookfield Properties is in charge of marketing the Fifth Avenue retail space, which is still home to the Coach, Stuart Weitzman, and Tag Heuer flagship stores.

547 West 47th Street, aka The West, Tops Out In Hell’s Kitchen

Construction has topped out at The West, a full-block residential development at 547 West 47th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Concrete and developed by Ironstate Development, CB Developers, and SK Development Group, the 12-story structure spans 30,000 square feet. The rectangular lot, which is located between West 47th Street and West 48th Street, was purchased for $93 million in the summer of 2018. Concrete also did the interior design.
