Construction on 550 Madison Avenue’s Garden Space Moves Along in Midtown East, Manhattan

Construction is complete on the steel and glass garden canopy at 550 Madison Avenue, a 684-foot-tall landmarked skyscraper in Midtown East. The triple-height framework is designed by Snøhetta with AECOM Tishman as the general contractor, and is part of a 21,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor renovation of the 38-year-old postmodern office building by The Olayan Group and RXR Realty, along with a revamped lobby designed by Gensler that was completed late last year. The developers are aiming to achieve LEED Platinum and WELL Gold certifications for the building, which is located between East 55th and 56th Streets.

Two Manhattan West’s Glass Curtain Wall Approaches Pinnacle in Midtown West, Manhatan

Façade installation is nearing the parapet of Two Manhattan West, a 58-story commercial skyscraper in the five-building Manhattan West master plan in Midtown West. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield, the 935-foot-tall tower will yield 2 million square feet of office space directly to the south of its taller fraternal sibling, One Manhattan West. W&W Glass is the facade contractor and AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the project, which is aiming for LEED Gold Certification and is located at the corner of West 31st Street and Ninth Avenue. Two Manhattan West is already 25 percent leased with law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore confirmed as the flagship tenant.

Construction is nearing completion on 115 East 55th Street, an 18-story residential building in Midtown East. Designed by SLCE Architects for Zeckendorf Development, the 185-foot-tall reinforced concrete superstructure will yield 71,961 square feet and 58 units. CM& Associates Construction Management, LLC is the general contractor for the Midtown property, which is located on a relatively small plot between Lexington and Park Avenues, directly to the east of Norman Foster‘s nearly finished 425 Park Avenue.

Construction continues to rise on 270 Park Avenue, JPMorgan Chase‘s new 1,388-foot-tall, 70-story supertall headquarters in Midtown East. Severud Associates is the engineer of record and Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE) designed the structural foundation elements for the 2.5 million-square-foot tower, which takes up a full city block between Park and Madison Avenues and 47th and 48th Streets.

Construction has topped out on 27-19 Thomson Avenue, a ten-story residential building in Long Island CityQueens. Designed by MY Architect PC and developed by Thomson Development LLC, the 28,051-square-foot structure will yield 23,012 square feet of residential space spread across 30 units and 5,039 square feet of lower-level retail. Warner Construction Services Inc. handling construction of the 116-foot-tall building, which stands on a trapezoidal plot at the intersection of Thomson Avenue and 44th Drive.
