Construction on 50 West 66th Street is moving along, and work has reached street level for the Upper West Side‘s future tallest building. Recent photos show a dense network of rebar laid out for the ground-floor slab, and bundled vertically for the construction of reinforced columns. The 775-foot-tall residential tower is being designed by Snohetta and developed by Extell.

Hunters Point Library Appears Ready For Long-Awaited Opening, in Long Island City

After four years of work, Hunter’s Point Library looks to be nearing full completion at 47-07 Center Boulevard in Long Island City. YIMBY last reported on the project back in December 2016, when a tour of the Steven Holl Architects-designed structure revealed spacious interiors, multi-story atriums, and stacked floor plates. Two and a half years later, the architecturally finished concrete walls and oversized abstract-shaped widows are complete, and the interiors also appear to be finished. Work on the surrounding landscape has yet to begin.

RAMSA’s 220 Central Park South Getting Finishing Touches on Billionaires’ Row

The finishing exterior touches are going on 220 Central Park South, Robert A. M. Stern Architects’ tallest project in New York City. The 67-story residential tower contains 593,000 square feet of newly built space and stands 950 feet tall above Central Park South. The classically inspired, pre-war evocative skyscraper is clearly visible from Columbus Circle and the southern end of Central Park. SLCE Architects is the executive architect, the interiors are being designed by Thierry W. Despont, and Vornado Realty Trust is the developer of the $1.4 billion dollar development. The firm is expecting a projected $3.4 billion sellout.

Rooftop Addition for 150 Fifth Avenue Tops Out Over the Flatiron District

The final steel beam was ceremoniously lifted into place for the addition on 150 Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron District, in an event attended by leaders of L&L Holding Company and OC Development Management (OCDM). More than 100 construction workers, designers, and engineers were also present for the dedication and signed their names on the beam. The expansion features a two-story, 35,000 square-foot rooftop structure, part of a multi-million-dollar renovation and modernization of the landmarked 11-story building. The entire property will become the new home for Mastercard. STUDIOS Architecture is the design firm behind the project.

Hard Rock Hotel Readies for Construction at 159 West 48th Street in Times Square

The construction crane has been assembled at the site of the future Hard Rock Hotel at 159 West 48th Street, signaling that work is set to commence on the Times Square development. Located between Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue, the 225,000-square-foot, 445-room hotel is being designed by Berg + Moss Architects and developed by Extell in partnership with Hard Rock International. The plot measures 13,000 square feet and has yet to see the superstructure rise above street level.
