Casa Cipriani Readies for August Debut at The Battery Maritime Building in Financial District, Manhattan

Preparations are underway for next month’s grand opening of Casa Cipriani, a private club and hotel at the historic Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in the Financial District. Construction recently completed on a 21st century steel and glass addition designed by Marvel with interiors by Thierry Despont atop the 112-year old Beaux Arts-style ferry terminal, which was originally designed by Walker & Morris and prominently stands along the waterfront. Measuring 263 feet wide and standing two stories tall, the 192,000-square-foot complex yields 47 hotel suites with private balconies overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Governors Island, and the inbound and outbound Staten Island Ferries across the New York Harbor. MJM Associates is the general contractor, Silman is the structural engineer, Langan is the civil engineer, Madson Black did the lighting, and Cipriani, Midtown Equities and Centaur Properties are the clients.

Moxy Hotel Continues Ascent at 145 Bowery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Construction is rising on the 18-story Moxy Hotel at 145 Bowery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Stonehill & Taylor Architects and developed by Lightstone Group, the 193-foot-tall structure will yield 127,000 square feet and 303 rooms, averaging 200 square feet apiece. The property, which is located at the corner of Broome Street and Bowery, will also feature a restaurant, a lobby bar, a cocktail bar, and a lounge.

YIMBY Explores the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library in Midtown, Manhattan

YIMBY took a look inside the recently opened Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL), which is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 40th Street across from Bryant Park and the main New York Public Library building. The renovation was made possible thanks to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, which contributed $55 million along with support from the City of New York. The building was once home to the Mid-Manhattan Library in the 1970s, and before that, the Arnold Constable Company. The 180,000-square-foot facility opened to the public on June 1 at a cost of $200 million and includes eight levels with soaring atrium spaces, wide walkways, easy circulation, bright interiors, and an outdoor rooftop terrace that overlooks the surrounding Midtown, Manhattan neighborhood. Interiors were done by Dutch architect Francine Houben of Mecanoo Architects and Beyer Blinder Belle.

Pendry Manhattan West Prepares for September Debut at Four Manhattan West in Midtown, Manhattan

Pendry Manhattan West, a 21-story hotel tower, is getting ready to open its doors to guests this September at 440 West 33rd Street in the eight-acre Manhattan West development in Midtown West. Also known as Four Manhattan West in the five-building complex, the 281-foot-tall Pendry is designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield Properties and will yield 164 guest rooms and 30 suites featuring California-influenced designs by Gachot Studios. The structure will also house a Mediterranean-themed restaurant, a lounge, a 1,600-square-foot open-air bar, a 150-person ballroom, and 6,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces. This is the first Pendry Hotels & Resorts property in New York City.
