Central Park Tower Climbs Past 1,100 Feet as Cladding and Glass Begin to Show

News about the supertalls rising in the city is pouring in, including 111 West 57th Street’s ascent past the 1,000-foot mark and YIMBY’s exclusive reveal about the possible revival of Foster + Partners’ design at 200 Greenwich Street. For today, we turn back to Midtown with an update for Central Park Tower, the tallest building under construction in the country. Extell Development Company and the Shanghai Municipal Investment Group are responsible for the project.

Permits Filed for 350 East 18th Street, Gramercy, Manhattan

Permits have been filed for an eleven-story mixed-use building at 350 East 18th Street in the Gramercy neighborhood of Manhattan. While it is technically in Gramercy, the site is about seven blocks away from the famed private park, and is situated across the street from Stuyvesant Town. CIM Group will be responsible for the development.

111 West 57th Street Reaches Supertall Heights as Pieces of the Façade Appear to Go Missing

The progress across Billionaire’s Row has been significant in recent months. Today, YIMBY has an update on Midtown’s new terracotta masterpiece, for which sales are starting, and the latest photographs show that construction has officially reached supertall heights. 126 Madison Avenue Rapidly Rising Toward 756-foot Pinnacle in NoMad, Manhattan

15 East 30th Street, also known as 126 Madison Avenue, has been making swift progress toward its 51-story pinnacle. 16 floors have now been built, comprising 30 percent of the eventual total floor count. The building will soon rise to be one of the tallest buildings in the NoMad neighborhood, featuring exceptional views of the Empire State Building.

Studio Gang’s Geometric Solar Carve Tower Begins to Shine at 40 10th Avenue in Chelsea

Topping-out this past April, Studio Gang‘s Solar Carve Tower along Chelsea’s High Line is now nearing full completion as its dazzling glass facade rises above Tenth Avenue, between West 13th and 14th Streets. Located at 40 Tenth Avenue, and sitting to the immediate north of the Standard Hotel, the 10-story building will be entirely encased in glass, and constructed with reinforced concrete. The Jeanne Gang-designed structure will span 139,000 square feet in all, and is being co-developed by Aurora Capital and William Gottlieb Real Estate.

Thomas Heatherwick’s Iconic Pier 55 Park Begins to Rise Above the Hudson River in Chelsea

A part of Chelsea Piers that saw historic ocean liners RMS Lusitania and RMS Mauretania sail out of New York, as well as the arrival of The Titanic’s survivors aboard The Carpathia in 1912, is finally ready to begin its new life. Cunard’s former Pier 54 is now being transformed into an iconic floating park above the Hudson River called Pier 55, designed by Thomas Heatherwick.

The Empire State Building’s New Visitor Center Celebrates Official Opening Day

Last year, 4.2 million people visited the Empire State Building’s observation deck through their Fifth Avenue lobby. What the visitors may not have realized is that office employees were using the same entrance. Thankfully, workers will no longer have to wade through crowds of wayward tourists every day. A new entrance officially opened yesterday for the famous Midtown supertall, designed to accommodate the large number of visitors and create a more engaging experience.

Supertall 50 Hudson Yards Sees Slight Height Increase, Will Now Rise 1,011 Feet

New permits have been filed that reveal 50 Hudson Yards will rise to be 1,011 feet tall. This brings the tower further into the supertall territory, when before it was one foot above the official minimum of 984 feet, or 300 meters. It is unclear how or if this will affect the overall design. The tower is the last of Hudson Yard’s first phase to start construction, and will coincidentally be the largest by floor area.

Permits have been filed for a sixteen-story mixed-use building at 300 West 30th Street, in Midtown, Manhattan. The site is on the corner of 30th Street and 8th Avenue, a block from the southwest corner of Penn Station, and two avenues away Hudson Yards. Hiwin USA group is listed as responsible for the development.

One Manhattan West’s Mushrooming Steel Reaches Top Floor, Midtown West

Construction of the 67-story One Manhattan West in Midtown has been an unusual spectacle for most New Yorkers. The mushrooming rise of the structure is not a normal sight in Manhattan, but the arrangement has been effective, with steel rising the final fourteen levels in just two months, and now reaching the top floor. Brookfield is responsible for the development.
