Renderings Reveal Lobby Redesign for 155 East 44th Street aka 10 Grand Central, Midtown East

Renderings are out for a new look coming to 155 East 44th Street. The office building’s entrance and lobby will be redesigned to resemble a welcoming environment, along with the lounge, terrace, and modernized pre-war offices. The 35-story office building, designed by Ely Jacque Kahn, will be renamed 10 Grand Central, in recognition of being located within Midtown’s Grand Central Submarket area.

30 Hudson Yards Officially Tops Out 1,296 Feet Above Street Level

Speculations for the topping out of the 73-story 30 Hudson Yards have been swirling for the last couple months, and now the fateful day has finally arrived. Yesterday morning, YIMBY received confirmation that the tallest building of the Hudson Yards mega-development has finally reached its pinnacle, with an American flag rising above the building’s parapet. While some steel remains to be installed before the crown is fully complete, the significance of this is akin to the topping of the spire of a cathedral. In this case, it is a monument to the capitalistic ideals that fuel the contemporary American economy.

425 Park Avenue’s Façade Installation Begins as Construction Nears Halfway Point, Midtown East

The Foster + Parters design for 425 Park Avenue’s revamp is making major progress. The Midtown office building will be aesthetically divided into three sections, with proportions defined by the remains of the formerly extant structure, which comprise its lowest floors. Thanks to Tectonic, we can confirm that the new tower is now making the transition from its second section into the final, vertical rise. Construction has 22 floors left until topping-out, or just over half of the 41 total floors that will result.

Block 675’s Mixed-Use Skyscrapers Fully Unveiled Adjacent to Hudson Yards

Just south of the still-exposed train yard that gave the Hudson Yards neighborhood its name, progress is being made on another two new mixed-use skyscrapers. While teasers have been shown before, the first full renderings are now out for the towers planned at Block 675. Douglaston Development will be responsible for 601 West 29th Street, and Lalezarian Properties is behind 606 West 30th Street.

Approvals Secured for Gamma Real Estate’s 3 Sutton Place, Midtown East

Earlier today, Gamma Real Estate secured approval from the Board of Standards and Appeals to continue with construction of the Foster + Partners designed residential tower that will rise over 800 feet above its surrounding context, at 3 Sutton Place. Located just south of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge on East 58th Street between Sutton Place South and 1st Avenue, and only a stone’s throw away from the East River, the project has continued to stir controversy and disapproval from local NIMBYs, who have been attacking the plans since renderings were revealed back in December 2015.
