Façade installation is nearing completion on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s ten-story New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot structure is engineered to LEED Gold standards and will yield classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. Forte Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which sits on a shallow plot between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on the northernmost edge of the FIT campus.

Hudson Hotel Secures $100M Loan to Complete Residential Conversion in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

A residential conversion of the Hudson Hotel will move forward following the acquisition of a $100 million financial package from Northwind Group. Located at 358 West 58th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, the existing 878-key hotel will be redeveloped to support 441 rental apartments and more than 50,000 square feet of retail space. CSC Coliving, repeat Northwind Group borrowers, will oversee the conversion of the property, which is situated between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, just southwest of Columbus Circle and Central Park.

Exterior work is continuing on 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 51-story hotel skyscraper in Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 642-foot-tall structure will yield 379 guest rooms, a business center, a ballroom, and a fourth-floor restaurant with a bar and outdoor terrace. Atria Builders is the general contractor for the project, which is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

Construction has reached street level on 36 West 38th Street, a 20-story hotel in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Gene Kaufman and developed by Onboard Hospitality LLC, which purchased the property for $19 million in a bankruptcy auction from Gemini Real Estate in 2017, the structure will stand 205 feet tall and yield an undisclosed number of hotel rooms. Omnibuild Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just south of Bryant Park.
