50 Hudson Yards’ Concrete Core Reaches 1,011-Foot-Tall Pinnacle, in Hudson Yards

Construction of the concrete core appears to have topped out at 50 Hudson Yards, a 1,011-foot-tall commercial supertall in Hudson Yards and number eight on our countdown of the tallest buildings in progress in the New York metropolitan area. Designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Related Companies with Oxford Properties, the 58-story skyscraper will yield 2.9 million square feet of office space, making it the largest building by volume in the first phase of the Hudson Yards master plan.

Robert A. M. Stern’s 220 Central Park South Stands Completed in Midtown

Construction is now fully complete on 220 Central Park South, a 950-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Midtown and number nine on our annual end-of-year countdown. The 67-story, $1.4 billion tower is designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects and developed by Vornado Realty Trust, which is projecting a $3.4 billion sellout and has already closed on 118 condominium units. SLCE Architects is the executive architect and Thierry W. Despont is the interior designer of the homes, which span around 593,000 square feet. The site is nestled between Seventh Avenue and Columbus Circle.

Two Manhattan West Steadily Ascending in Midtown West

Construction is rising steadily at Two Manhattan West, a 935-foot-tall commercial skyscraper in Midtown West and number ten on our countdown of the tallest projects under construction in New York. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield, the 58-story structure is rising directly to the south of the completed One Manhattan West, its 996-foot-tall fraternal twin. Two Manhattan West is rising at the corner of West 31st Street and Ninth Avenue and will feature the same architectural design like its northern sibling with yield 2 million square feet of office space at an expected cost of $2 billion.

Excavation Begins at 141 East 47th Street in Midtown East

Excavation is underway at 141 East 47th Street, the site of a 35-story residential tower in Midtown East. The 183,310-square-foot project is designed by Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by Silverback Development. The latter was brought on by Hopson Development Holdings, which purchased the parcel for $115 million in December 2019 from the original developers, New Empire Real Estate. Located between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue, the development is set to yield 200 units and cost $250 million.

12 East 48th Street’s Curtain Wall Assembly Wraps Up Installation in Midtown East

The final exterior touches are underway on 12 East 48th Street, a 367-foot-tall hotel tower in Midtown East. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Hidrock Realty, the property is set to house a 161-room, 125,000-square-foot Hilton Grand Vacation Hotel. DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the structural engineer, The Rinaldi Group is the general contractor, and IBA Consulting & Engineering, PLLC is the envelope consultant for the building, which is located between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue.
