251 West 14th Street’s Concrete Core Closes in on Final Floors, in Chelsea

Construction at 251 West 14th Street has risen even with the parapets of the adjacent buildings in Chelsea, and work will soon begin on the cantilevering floors that jut out over its western neighbor. Meanwhile, the structure’s central reinforced concrete core is climbing closer toward the top of the 11-story structure. Isay Weinfield collaborated with FORM4 Design Studio PLLC to design the residential property. Pizzarotti is in charge of the build, which is expected to yield a total of 25 condominiums.

The Fitzroy Nears Full Completion at 514 West 24th Street, in West Chelsea

Installation of The Fitzroy’s Art Deco-inspired exterior recently wrapped up at 514 West 24th Street in Chelsea. The residential building’s sidewalk scaffolding has been dismantled and the final remaining touches on the ground floor are almost complete. The large canopy that hangs over the front door is installed, while several marble slabs at the base of the structure remain covered in a protective cardboard. This should be imminently removed, fully revealing the richly textured and dark-colored façade. The L’Observatoire International-designed spotlight fixtures, which will illuminate the glazed terra cotta panels and copper-framed windows, are all in place. The 65,300-square-foot project is being designed by Roman and Williams and developed by JDS Development and Largo Investments. Residences start at $5.6 million and are being marketed by CORE.

Thomas Heatherwick’s Pier 55 Sculptural Concrete Pots Near Completion in Chelsea

The large concrete pots that form the foundation of Thomas Heatherwick’s Pier 55 park over the Hudson River are close to completion. These massive, funnel-shaped components are anchored to a number of individual concrete piers and create a striking appearance from the shore. They serve to support the pier’s undulating, rolling terrain and varying topographical elevations, which will eventually be covered in a lush landscape of vegetation and greenery. The construction site is located along the Chelsea waterfront and rises where Cunard’s Pier 54 once stood. The 2.7-acre park features a total of 425 piles and is being managed by the Hudson River Park Trust (HRPT)Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, P.C. is designing the landscaping.

532 West 20th Street Continues to Rise Near the High Line, in Chelsea

Construction is nearing the halfway mark at 532 West 20th Street, an 11-story condominium in Chelsea. A large amount of formwork is visible on the main façade as crews build out the walls of the fourth and fifth floors. Located between Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue, the structure is being constructed by design-build firm DDG, which purchased the plot for $24.25 million in 2014. The building will contain 27,019 square feet of residential space divided into nine apartments, for an average of 3,000 square feet apiece. The site is a short walk from the High Line, the waterfront, and Chelsea Piers.
