Hotel developer Sam Chang has just broken ground on his second hotel on West 39th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. YIMBY has the first look at the building at 350 West 39th Street, which will be designed by Gene Kaufman.
A vacant lot in the Flatiron District is on its way to getting a new building. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved an application for a single-family residence at 34 West 21st Street.
In June, pawn shop owner Boris Aronov filed plans for a 220-foot-tall office building at 43 West 47th Street, in the block-long Diamond District in Midtown. Now, YIMBY has renderings for the development, which will replace a pair of smaller buildings between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
Excavation and piling work are underway on the site of a planned nine-story, 153,754-square-foot commercial building at 61 Ninth Avenue, located on the corner of West 15th Street in Chelsea. The site can be seen thanks to a photo posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the project will rise 135 feet to its roof, or 175 feet if the bulkhead is included.
In June, YIMBY reported that major changes are ahead for the Waldorf Astoria New York hotel. Thanks to a move on Tuesday, there are unlikely to be too many changes that mar its historic design. The Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar portions of the Art Deco skyscraper’s interior.
