It was only back in October that YIMBY reported on 53 West 53rd Street’s surpassing its 50th floor. Now, the supertall residential tower designed by Jean Nouvel is just about to top-out, with an estimate that formwork should be complete by early March, as the last concrete is poured above the 1,000-foot mark for the iconic skyscraper.
The blocks of Midtown West feature some of the largest new developments of any neighborhood in the Five Boroughs, with the Moinian Group’s Sky containing the most apartments of any tower in the city, with over 1,100 in all. But just a few blocks to the northeast, the developer is nearing completion on a slightly smaller 164-unit building at 572 Eleventh Avenue, which will officially be named Oskar, and has now launched its teaser website.
A new rendering has been revealed for 555 West 22nd Street, owned by Related Companies, confirming YIMBY’s last report on its future as a residential building. The West Chelsea lot is currently occupied by low-rise commercial and residential structures as well as a U-Haul lot, however demolition permits were filed in February of last year. Related acquired these properties and adjacent air rights for a total of $234 million.
Thanks to efforts led by Cushman & Wakefield , the 27-story Heron Tower in Midtown has now achieved LEED-Gold Status. The Heron Tower, at 70 East 55th Street between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue, was built in 1987, yielding 154,000 square feet of office space, and stands 314 feet tall.
Two new renderings have been revealed for 511-515 West 18th Street, in West Chelsea, which is being developed by Related Companies. The images show two towers with pod-like bowed glass facades, and brick exteriors, running along Tenth Avenue, and positioned on either side of the High Line between 18th and 19th streets. Thomas Heatherwick will be the design architect.
