Bulging Sculptural Windows at Heatherwick’s 515 West 18th Street Nearing Completion, in Chelsea

The first residential project in New York City by Thomas Heatherwick is making swift progress at 515 West 18th Street in Chelsea. The curtain wall of bulging, two-story windows on the shorter, ten-story building is nearly complete, while the façade of the taller, 22-story reinforced concrete structure is now starting on the second floor. The topped-out buildings straddle the High Line and will become an eye-catching addition to the neighborhood for residents and tourists alike. The project is located between Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue, and is being developed by Related Companies.

Ultra-Contemporary Redesign Revealed for 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards

A new rendering has been released for 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 487-foot-tall hotel tower by Marx Development Groups in Hudson Yards. The redesign appears to be a much taller and features a more lively architectural scheme than the previous rendering from last month. Designed by DSM Design Group, the structure will contain a 531-room hotel from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

Stone Façade of Bjarke Ingels’ The XI Seen Climbing Above Eleventh Avenue in Chelsea

The stone façade has begun to climb up the twisting curtain walls The XI, a pair of towers designed by Bjarke Ingels of Bjarke Ingels Group in Chelsea. One of the most noticeable construction projects along the High Line, the 36- and 26-story reinforced concrete towers, which topped out in March, will soon be home to condominiums and a 137-room Six Senses Hotel Resorts Spas, the first location in the United States. Eighty-seven of the residential units will be designed by Gilles & Boissier, while 136 will be designed by Gabellini Sheppard. Prices will range from $2,575,000 to $14,500,000.

Located on the corner of East 21st Street and Second Avenue, the lot is about five blocks from the 23rd Street subway station, serviced by the 6 train. Silverback Development is listed as the owner behind the applications.

Permits have been filed for an 18-story apartment building at 115 East 55th Street in Midtown East, Manhattan. Located between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue, the lot is four blocks south of the Lexington Avenue-59th Street subway station, serviced by the N, R, and W trains. Also nearby is the Lexington Avenue-53 Street subway station, serviced by the E and M trains. Zeckendorf Development is listed as the owner behind the applications.

425 Park Avenue’s Crowning Trident Begins to Rise in Midtown East

Construction has begun on the structural frames for 425 Park Avenue‘s trio of decorative parapet fins in Midtown East. The 47-story, 897-foot-tall building is designed by Norman Foster, head of Foster + Partners, and is being developed by L&L Holding Company LLC. Adamson Associates is the architect of record.

Demolition for Future 52-Story Skyscraper at 10-14 West 57th Street Moving Quickly, in Midtown

Demolition on one of several buildings at 10-14 West 57th Street has been completed. The remaining neighboring structures sit empty and will soon come down to make way for a 52-story mixed-use skyscraper designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill. James Patterson of Ancora Engineering is the applicant of record. Sheldon Solow, chairman of Solow Realty & Development Group, is the developer for the site and Anthony Calicchio is listed as the owner behind the applications. The new 672-foot-tall, 383,000-square-foot skyscraper will contain 80 residential units spread across 202,738 square feet of space.

Gleaming Terracotta Facade Revealed At 1 Great Jones Alley aka 688 Broadway, in NoHo

The black netting and construction scaffolding are coming down at 1 Great Jones Alley, aka 688 Broadway, in NoHo. The main Broadway elevation is now mostly exposed to the daylight, showcasing the dynamic pattern of terra cotta fins that cover the windows and brick envelope. The 12-story, 154-foot-tall residential building is designed by BKSK Architects and developed by Madison Realty Capital, with HMWhite as the landscape architect. The building will contain 16 units, averaging 2,930 square feet apiece.

Robert A.M. Stern Architects’ 555 West 22nd Street Reaches Street Level, in Chelsea

Construction at 555 West 22nd Street has reached street level in Chelsea. Designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects and developed by Related Companies, the 26-story condominium project is located at 11th Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Streets, not far from Chelsea Piers and the High Line. SLCE Architects is serving as the architect of record. This will be Robert A.M. Stern’s first residential project in Chelsea and will contain a total of 39 units, averaging around 2,245 square feet apiece.
