The Cortland’s Brick Envelope Nears Completion at 555 West 22nd Street in West Chelsea, Manhattan

Façade installation is getting close to completion on The Cortland, a 25-story residential building at 555 West 22nd Street in West Chelsea. Designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Related Companies, the structure will yield 144 residential units spread over 250,000 square feet, for an average of 2,245 square feet. Related Sales LLC and CORE are the co-sales and marketing agents for the property, which is located along West Street across from Hudson River Park between West 22nd and West 23rd Streets. Sales will launch early this year and homes range from studios to five-bedroom layouts, along with a collection of exclusive penthouses.

241 West 28th Street’s Brick Façade Begins Installation in Chelsea, Manhattan

Construction has topped out on 241 West 28th Street, a 22-story two-tower residential project in Chelsea. Designed by COOKFOX for MAG Partners, Atalaya, Safanad, and Qualitas, the 235-foot-tall, 400,000-square-foot development will yield 480 residential units with 30 percent reserved for low- and middle-income households. King Contracting Group is in charge of brickwork and Urban Atelier Group is the general contractor for the complex, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. MAG Partners acquired the Midtown, Manhattan property in December 2018 when it was still an open-surface parking lot and established a 99-year ground lease with Edison Properties.

Excavation Progresses at 308 West 43rd Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Excavation is progressing at 308 West 43rd Street, the site of a two-building residential development in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Taconic Partners under the 311 West 42nd Street Associates LLC, the 373,133-square-foot development will yield 321 apartments averaging 839 square feet apiece as well as 25,202 square feet of retail space. Triton Construction is serving as the general contractor for the property, which is located between West 42nd and 43rd Streets and Eighth and Ninth Avenues, directly north of the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Tiffany & Co. Flagship Expansion Progresses at 727 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Work is continuing to take shape on the expansion of the Tiffany & Co. flagship store at 727 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by OMA partners Shohei Shigematsu and Jake Forster, the scope involves a three-story steel-framed structural addition that rises above the original flat roof line of the world famous jewelry brand’s 72-year-old Art Moderne building. CallisonRTKL is the architect of record, Peter Marino Architects is handling the interior renovations, Mace is the owners rep, and Structure Tone is the general contractor for the project, which now stands 11 stories tall at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street.

30 West 39th Street’s Podium Façade Progresses in Midtown, Manhattan

Exterior work is nearing completion on 30 West 39th Street, a 27-story hotel tower in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Fortuna Realty, the 323-foot-tall reinforced concrete structure will yield 133,500 square feet with 330 guest rooms. Leeding Builders Group, LLC is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just one block south of Bryant Park.

H Hotel W39 Continues Ascent at 58 West 39th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

The upcoming H Hotel W39, at 58 West 39th Street is currently rising in Midtown, Manhattan Designed by Peter F. Poon Architects and developed by Wei Hong Hu of H Hotel LLC, the ground-up 28-story, 447-foot-tall project is being built by City Cross Construction Corp., who is the general contractor for the vertically growing reinforced concrete superstructure, which is wedged on a narrow plot of land between Fifth and South Avenues just one street below Bryant Park. YIMBY last reported that 58 West 39th Street would yield a total of 41,500 square feet of commercial space, 65 hotel rooms, meeting rooms, a fitness center, and a hotel lobby.

Marriott SpringHill’s Exterior Progresses at 223 West 46th Street in Times Square, Manhattan

Façade installation is getting closer to completion on the 20-story Marriott SpringHill hotel at 223 West 46th Street in Times Square. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architects and developed by McSam Hotel Group, the project will yield 70,000 square feet and 200 guest rooms. Zhong Wang Construction Services Inc. is listed as the general contractor for the property, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.

175 Park Avenue’s 1,575-Foot-Tall Design Gains Approval in Midtown East, Manhattan

At number one on our year-end countdown is Skidmore Owings & Merrill‘s mixed-use supertall at 175 Park Avenue in Midtown East, which earlier this month gained approval from the New York City Council. Developed by RXR Realty and TF Cornerstone, the 85-story tower has been reduced in height from 1,642 to 1,575 feet, still enough to surpass Central Park Tower for the title of tallest building in New York by roof height. 175 Park Avenue will eventually rise from the site of the Grand Hyatt hotel between the 108-year-old Beaux Arts Grand Central Terminal and the 91-year-old Art Deco Chrysler Building. The structure will yield 2.1 million square feet of Class A office space; 500 Hyatt hotel rooms on the upper floors spanning 453,000 square feet; 10,000 square feet of retail space on the ground, cellar, and second levels; and an elevated, 25,000-square-foot publicly accessible plaza space populated with artwork and views overlooking the surrounding Midtown streets.

Central Park Tower Finishes Construction as New York City’s Tallest Residential Building in Midtown, Manhattan

Work is wrapping up on Central Park Tower, a 1,550-foot residential supertall in Midtown and number two on our year-end countdown. Addressed as 217 West 57th Street, the 131-story tower is designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and developed by Extell and stands as the tallest residential building in the world and the tallest structure in New York by roof height. The property yields 179 condominiums marketed by Corcoran Sunshine above a Nordstrom retail podium bound by West 57th and West 58th Streets and Broadway and Seventh Avenue.

SHoP Architects’ 111 West 57th Street Nears Completion in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is coming to a close on 111 West 57th Street, a 1,428-foot supertall residential skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan and number three on YIMBY’s December countdown of the tallest buildings being built in New York City. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, Property Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, 111 West 57th Street will yield just 60 condominiums with interiors designed by Studio Sofield and marketed by Douglas Elliman Development Marketing. The project is located on Billionaires’ Row between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, and is almost perfectly aligned with the centerline of Central Park.
