Located in the heart of Midtown between West 36th Street and West 37th Streets is a new hotel that has topped out at 525 Eighth Avenue. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architect, the 28-story building is being developed by Sam Chang of McSam Hotel Group. There will be 321 rooms covering a total of 96,000 square feet when complete.
There are few places better than Central Park to truly appreciate the scale of New York City. The cliff-like transition from Midtown to Olmsted’s masterpiece is part of what attracts people to the city, and it’s only getting more dramatic. The DoubleTree Suites by Hilton has long been located at the intersection of 7th Avenue and West 47th Street. But in a few more years, the soon-to-be former hotel will house Times Square’s newest project, a nearly $2.5 billion redevelopment by L&L Holding Company, Maefield Development, and Fortress Investment Group. With the site purchased for $450 million, they plan to demolish the existing hotel and create a new 550,000 square foot and 46-story skyscraper, dubbed TSX Broadway. Plans also integrate the 105-year old Palace Theater. Approved by the Landmark Preservation Commission in November 2015, the historic structure will be lifted from its foundations and placed 30 feet above street level.
Brookfield has officially celebrated the topping out of the 67-story One Manhattan West, aka OMW, the largest of six structures in their six million square foot Manhattan West development in Midtown West. The project has successfully lured several large companies to lease, and plans to add a significant amount of public space to the city. Stillman Development International has unveiled their ambitious renovation plans for one of New York City’s oldest theaters. Located at 215 West 42nd Street, Times Square Theater was originally constructed in 1920 by Italian architect Eugene de Rosa who designed several performance centers in both Manhattan and Staten Island.
