YIMBY Attends Plaque Unveiling at 17 Beekman Place in Turtle Bay, Manhattan

Last Friday evening, YIMBY attended a plaque unveiling dedicated to the late James Vincent Forrestal at 17 Beekman Place in Turtle Bay. The residential building, located by the corner of Beekman Place and East 50th Street, formerly served as Forrestal’s private home and is now owned by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and its diplomatic missions. The event was attended by Luxembourg Prime Minister H.E. Xavier Bettel, Karen Donfried, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. State Department, Lt. Col. James Hendon, Commissioner, NYC Department of Veterans’ Services, and Francesca C. Forrestal, the sole grandchild of the Forrestals.

Silverstein Properties Reveals Interactive Art Experience at 529 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Dubbed “Wonderland Dreams,” the exhibit invites patrons to explore an immersive 3D painting created in partnership with artist Alexa Meade and Catching Flights.

Located between West 37th and West 38th Streets, the lot is four blocks from 34th Street-Penn Station subway station, serviced by the A, C, and E trains. One Madison Avenue’s Tower Expansion Begins Steel Assembly in Flatiron District, Manhattan

Construction is rising on One Madison Avenue, a 27-story commercial expansion in the Flatiron District. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by SL Green, the National Pension Service of Korea, and Hines, the project involves the gut renovation and expansion of a former eight-story structure and will yield 1.4 million square feet of office space. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the property, which occupies a full block bound by East 23rd and 24th Streets and Madison Avenue and Park Avenue South.

Jōji Debuts Beneath One Vanderbilt and Grand Central Terminal in Midtown East, Manhattan

SL Green has debuted Jōji, a speakeasy meets Omakase-style restaurant beneath supertall office tower One Vanderbilt in Midtown East, Manhattan. The eatery is hidden beneath the tower in a secluded section of Grand Central Terminal and features a minimalist design in stark contrast with the buzzing transportation hub just feet above.

PENN 2’s Eight-Story Addition Tops Out at 2 Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan

Last week, Vornado Realty Trust, Turner Construction Company, and Skanska celebrated the topping out of the new eight-story expansion at PENN 2, a 31-story commercial tower at Two Penn Plaza in Midtown. Designed by MdeAS Architects, the cantilevering addition is part of a full-scale overhaul project involving the curtain wall replacement and modernization of the mid-century structure’s 1.61 million square feet of office space. The 412-foot-tall building is located along Seventh Avenue between West 31st and West 33rd Streets, and is part of the massive Penn District revitalization plan that will add ten new towers to the area surrounding Penn Station and Madison Square Garden in the coming years.

44-54 Ninth Avenue’s Vertical Expansion and Renovation Progresses in Chelsea, Manhattan

Construction is progressing on 44-54 Ninth Avenue, an eight-story commercial expansion project above a row of landmarked townhomes on the border of Chelsea, the Meatpacking District, and the West Village. Designed by BKSK Architects and developed by Tavros Capital, the new structure will stand 102 feet tall and yield offices and ground-floor retail space. Mepa Realty is the owner and Broadway Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is alternatively addressed as 351-355 West 14th Street and is located at the corner of Ninth Avenue and West 14th Street.

TSX Broadway’s Glass Curtain Wall Nears Roof Parapet at 1568 Broadway in Times Square, Manhattan

Curtain wall installation is nearing the parapet of TSX Broadway, a 47-story hotel tower at 1568 Broadway in Times Square. Designed by Perkins Eastman and Mancini Duffy and developed by L&L Holding Company and Fortress Investment Group, the 550,000-square-foot structure will yield 661 hotel rooms, 100,000 square feet of retail space on the lower levels, and a cantilevering outdoor performance stage. The project also involved the restoration and lifting of the historic Palace Theater by PBDW Architects to make room for retail frontage. Pavarini McGovern is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Seventh Avenue and West 47th Street.

439-441 West 54th Street Progresses in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Façade work is finishing up on 439-441 West 54th Street, a seven-story residential building in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by ODA and developed by Yaus Special Clinton District LLC, the 66-foot-tall structure will yield 28 condominium units spread across 38,850 square feet, for an average of 1,170 square feet apiece. Cornerstone Structures is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Ninth and Tenth Avenues. Brown Harris Stevens Development Marketing will be handling sales.
