Steel Begins Extruding for 30 Hudson Yards’ Sky-High Observation Deck

A new milestone has been reached for New York’s largest new development. The highest public outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere has begun to take shape near the peak of 30 Hudson Yards. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group have announced that construction has started for the outdoor terrace, which will be just one part of the multi-floor space that includes a 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, and space for events programmed by the hospitality group rhubarb, who were also responsible for the Sky Garden lounge in London.

Chelsea has long been a center of creativity in Manhattan. Recent developments have been strongly inspired by that history. Many of the city’s most notable projects with distinctive architecture style have popped along the new High Line Park, including the Frank Gehry-design IAC Building, and Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28^th Street. The neighborhood’s latest impending icon is 76 Eleventh Avenue, a pair of twisting mixed-use towers under development by HFZ Capital. Construction is moving quickly for all components, and thanks to photos by Tectonic, we can see the latest progress.

The fate of 1710 Broadway in Midtown has been a point of anticipation for a long time, with YIMBY’s coverage of the saga beginning in 2014. Now, there has been a major update to tentative plans for the site, situated prominently on the northeast corner of Broadway and 54th Street.

The Gene Kaufman designed-1050 Sixth Avenue, dubbed ML House, is making significant progress in the heart of Midtown, Manhattan. In a break from the architect’s norm, the building will not be hospitality-minded; rather, it will yield 24 floors of apartments, as well as ground-floor retail space. The site is half a block away from Bryant Park, with access to several subway lines just a few blocks in any direction. Orin Wilf’s Garden Homes and Skyline is responsible for the development.

Excavation Begins for Long-Awaited Tower at 41 West 23rd Street, in Chelsea

Anbau Enterprises is officially moving forward on 41 West 23^rd Street, in Chelsea, over three years after the site’s re-design passed the Landmark Preservation Commission. Located half a block away from the Flatiron Building and less than two avenues away from four different subway stations on 23^rd Street, the lot has been expected to yield something interesting for about a decade, which means actual progress is very welcome.

Park Avenue is an iconic fixture of Manhattan, and its legacy and awe-inspiring scale have influenced city planning across the globe. While many buildings are now planned or rising along adjacent blocks, there is one aspect of the street that has remained antiquated. In fact, the medians in its center have not been significantly altered in a century. Fisher Brothers rightfully believes this should be reconsidered, and after opening an architectural competition “Beyond the Centerline” last November, winners have been chosen by both a popular vote and a professional jury for re-imagining the thoroughfare for the 21st century.

Central Park Tower Stretches Toward Supertall Territory On Way to 1,550′ Pinnacle

After covering 220 Central Park South and 111 West 57^th Street, it’s time we cover the tallest of the three skyscrapers under construction on Midtown’s billionaire’s alley. 217 West 57^th Street is currently on track to reach 1,550 feet above the ground. Once complete, it will be the tallest residential skyscraper in the country and second tallest tower in the country. Extell Development is responsible for the project.

111 West 57th Street Officially Surpasses Halfway Point in Rise to 1,428′ Pinnacle

With each new day that passes, the view of Midtown from southern Central Park is looking more like the renderings from several years ago. Today, we have a look at 111 West 57th Street, which is on its way to becoming the third-tallest skyscraper in New York City, surpassed only by One World Trade Center and Central Park Tower. It’s been three and a half months since YIMBY last reported on the soon-to-be supertall’s progress from Midtown. In that time, the tower has seen an incredible growth spurt, and is now officially over halfway to its eventual 1,428-foot peak.

220 Central Park South Begins Losing Prominence As Exterior Work Nears Completion

Among New York City’s current skyscrapers under construction, none comes closer to supertall status without actually reaching it than 220 Central Park South, which stands 950 feet to its rooftop. Despite imminent overshadowing by Central Park Tower, which will rise 600 feet taller, it is still an impressive addition to the Midtown Manhattan skyline. Today, YIMBY has an update on exterior progress, which is nearing completion, even as the building’s actual prominence is already on the decline.

The Shed At Hudson Yards Announces First Commissions, Interior Renderings Revealed

As the largest planned development in the United States inches closer to completion, The Shed at Hudson Yards has announced the first group of commissions to be on display during the 2019 inaugural season. The Shed will be New York City’s first and only arts center dedicated to commissioning, producing, and presenting new work across the performing arts, visual arts, and pop culture areas. The mixed-use space is expected to be open to the public sometime in the spring of 2019.
