New Rendering by OMA Highlights 41-47 West 57th Street’s Height, In Midtown Manhattan

OMA released a new preliminary rendering of 41-47 West 57th Street, which YIMBY reported on last week when it was heard that the planned mixed-use 1,100-foot-high supertall would rise along Billionaires’ Row over West 57th Street over the next several years. Crain’s reported that Sedesco will also offer to bring in a pair of new ADA-accessible elevators to the nearby 57th Street station on Sixth Avenue in exchange for an additional 52,000 square feet of space for the potential 443,100-square-foot Midtown, Manhattan project. About 237,100 square feet will be devoted toward residential usage with 119 units, while nearly 205,100 square feet of commercial space will make room for a 158-room hotel and a 10,212-square-foot restaurant. 41-47 West 57th Street is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and will include ground-floor frontage on both West 57th and 58th Streets.

1245 Broadway’s Façade Nears Completion in NoMad, Midtown

Façade installation is nearing completion on 1245 Broadway, a 23-story office building in NoMad. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by GDSNY and Sweden-based Klövern AB, the 318-foot-tall building will yield 200,000 square feet of commercial space with leasing managed by CBRE. StructureTech NY and Triton Construction are in charge of constructing the Midtown, Manhattan project, which stands at the corner of West 31st Street and Broadway.

Foundations Progress for FIT’s New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Excavation and foundation work are progressing on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in the Garment District of Chelsea. Designed by SHoP Architects, the ten-story, 110,000-square-foot structure is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within walking distance of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall. The New Academic Building is aiming for LEED Gold certification.

300 West 30th Street’s Envelope Progresses in Chelsea, Manhattan

Curtain wall installation is progressing on 300 West 30th Street, a 16-story residential building in Chelsea. Designed by Studio C Architects and developed by Hiwin USA, the property is located at the corner of West 30th Street and Eighth Avenue, a short walk from Madison Square Garden, Penn Station, and the new Moynihan Train Hall, and will yield 80 residential units and ground-floor retail space. The developer purchased the site from Salt Equities for $27.5 million in May 2018.

Excavation and Foundations Progressing at 241 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Below-grade work is progressing at 241 West 28th Street, a 22-story, 479-unit residential project in Chelsea. Designed by COOKFOX for MAG Partners, Atalaya, Safanad, and Qualitas, the two-tower development recently acquired $173 million in construction financing arranged by Maverick Commercial Properties. MAG Partners acquired the Midtown, Manhattan property in December 2018 and established a 99-year ground lease with Edison Properties. 241 West 28th Street is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues and will have 30 percent of residential units reserved for low- and middle-income households. Urban Atelier Group is the general contractor.

1,100-Foot Supertall Proposed for 41-47 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

It looks like Billionaires’ Row is about to get another supertall in the near future. Plans for a mixed-use 1,100-foot-tall tower at 41-47 West 57th Street have been spotted according to the New York DOB, where the applicant, BOB 57, LLC., proposes a 63-story supertall with just under 443,100 square feet of newly built space. About 237,100 square feet will be devoted toward residential usage with 119 units, while nearly 205,100 square feet of commercial space will make room for a 158-room hotel and a 10,212-square-foot restaurant. The Midtown, Manhattan site is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and has frontage along both West 57th and West 58th Streets. This would be the tallest structure between SHoP Architects‘ 111 West 57th Street and Rafael Vinoly‘s 432 Park Avenue.

Kossar’s Bagels & Bialys is opening a second retail location in Manhattan on the ground floor of Ohm, a 34-story mixed-use building at 312 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards.

New Rendering Revealed for Thomas Juul-Hansen’s 3 Sutton Place in Midtown East, Manhattan

A new rendering has been released for 3 Sutton Place, a 847-foot-tall residential skyscraper under construction at 430 East 58th Street in Midtown East. Spotted on architect Thomas Juul-Hansen‘s Instagram page, the rendering shows the 62-story tower illuminated at night from the East River. The project is being developed by Gamma Real Estate with Stephen B. Jacobs Group as the executive architect and will yield 121 units. The property is located between Sutton Place and First Avenue, a short walk from the Sutton Place Park North esplanade that overlooks the East River, Roosevelt Island, Long Island City, and the Queensboro Bridge.

Rough Trade Debuts New Retail Location at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan

Vinyl retailer Rough Trade recently debuted a new Manhattan flagship store in Rockefeller Center. Following seven years in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the retailer has relocated to Midtown and is now open for business in the former RCA Building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, just steps from Radio City Music Hall.

Demolition Underway at 308 West 43rd Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Demolition is underway at 308 West 43rd Street, the site of a two-building residential project in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Taconic Partners under the 311 West 42nd Street Associates LLC, the 373,133-square-foot development will rise directly to the north of Port Authority Bus Terminal and will yield 321 apartments averaging 839 square feet apiece as well as 25,202 square feet of retail space.
