Diagrams Show Nordstrom Tower/217 West 57th Street Will Stand 1,795 Feet Tall, Becoming New York City’s Tallest Building

The current race to the top of the skyline is the most impressive in New York City’s history, with ever-taller skyscrapers sprouting from the Financial District all the way to 57th Street. And YIMBY has now learned that 217 West 57th Street, aka the Nordstrom Tower, received a height boost between April and June of last year, pushing the tower’s pinnacle to 1,795 feet. That will make it the tallest building in New York City, the United States, and the Western Hemisphere.

27-Story Boutique Hotel Planned for 25 West 38th Street, Midtown South

The Real Deal has the latest on Fortuna Realty Group’s planned 27-story, 180-key boutique hotel to span 25-27 West 38th Street, in Midtown South. Starwood Hotels & Resorts is co-developing with Fortuna, and The Aloft New York Midtown is expected to open for business in October 2017; Nobutaka Ashihara Architects and VLDG are designing. The existing five- and eight-story buildings passed pre-demolition inspection in late April.

38-Story Condominium Tower At 118 East 59th Street Revealed, Midtown East

The New York Times has revealed full renderings for the planned 38-story, 29-unit condominium tower at 118 East 59th Street, in Midtown East. YIMBY brought you news of the project last fall, which the Chinese firm Euro Properties is developing. Soo K. Chan, of SCDA Architects, is designing the 70,260 square-foot structure and all the condos — starting at 1,400 square feet — will span at least one floor. Demolition of the site’s former four-story buildings is complete and construction begins in June.
